This position reports to the Superintendent of Grounds. Duties include, but are not limited to: Planting, weeding, mulching, watering, and caring for plants and shrubbery on university grounds. Mowing Maintaining lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, turf, and irrigation. Trimming hedges, trees, and shrubs. Preventing and eliminating weeds. Maintaining university grounds by keeping them free from trash, litter, and debris. Tent setups. Lifting/moving objects and equipment weighing approximately 50 pounds as needed. Using hand and power tools as needed to accomplish assigned tasks. Frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, and shoveling. Must be able to work weekends as needed.

Experience and Training:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Prefer applicants with strong grounds or horticultural experience. Prefer applicants with education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Valid Driver's License required.

Knowledge of:

Proper weeding, trimming, pruning, and fertilizing of plants and shrubbery. Hazards and safety precautions related to general maintenance and horticultural activities.

Ability to:

Properly care for assigned areas and equipment. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Work outdoors in all weather conditions. Bend, kneel, lift, and shovel. Lift/move heavy equipment and objects as needed. Properly use and care for hand and power tools.
