Job Description

Position Summary Join Alpha Genesis as part of the Facilities team maintaining safe, attractive, and functional grounds across our campus. The Grounds Crew performs landscape maintenance, turf care, snow/ice management (seasonal), exterior facility upkeep, and grounds-related repairs. This role supports operational readiness, safety, and appearance of outdoor spaces for animal care, research, and staff visitors by executing routine and preventative grounds work, operating powered equipment, and coordinating with facilities and animal care teams. What You Will Do Perform routine landscape maintenance including mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, leaf removal, mulching, planting, and seasonal flower bed care. Maintain turf health through fertilization, aeration, weed control, irrigation monitoring, and pest/disease observation; report issues to Grounds Supervisor. Operate and maintain grounds equipment safely (ride-on mowers, tractors, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, utility vehicles); perform basic equipment inspections and cleaning. Conduct snow and ice removal, deicing, and emergency grounds response as required by weather and operational needs.
Perform minor grounds-related repairs:
fence repair, signage maintenance, pathway and drainage upkeep, trash and debris removal, and litter control.
Assist with material handling:
moving soil, mulch, plants, sand, salt, and other supplies; load/unload deliveries. Follow safety procedures, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout when appropriate; report hazards and complete incident reports. Support event setup/teardown, perimeter security maintenance, and temporary site modifications for research or client visits. Maintain accurate work logs, equipment maintenance records, and report completed tasks and outstanding needs to supervision. Work weekends, holidays, and after-hours on a rotating or as-needed basis for events, emergencies, or seasonal demands. What We Are Looking For High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, turf management, or related outdoor maintenance work. Ability to safely operate grounds equipment and to perform physically demanding tasks (lifting up to 50 lbs, prolonged standing, bending, working in varied weather). Strong work ethic, punctuality, and ability to work independently and on a team. Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment care and minor repairs. Effective communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Valid South Carolina driver's license or ability to obtain one. Preferred Qualifications Vocational training or certifications in landscaping, turf management, horticulture, or equipment operation. Experience with irrigation systems, pesticide/herbicide application (or licensing), and turf fertility programs. CDL or experience operating larger utility/landscape trucks and trailers. Previous experience working on institutional, research, or campus grounds with awareness of security and biosecurity practices. Training or certification in chainsaw safety, pesticide application, or heavy equipment operation. Experience documenting maintenance activities in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or electronic work order systems.
