Job Description

We are seeking our next Groundskeeper who will be all-in on our mission and who will maintain the appearance of campus grounds and landscaping, conducting tree and shrubbery pruning, removing weeds and debris, operating grounds equipment, maintaining irrigation systems, and inspecting and reporting any damages or necessary repairs to buildings or pathways.
EDUCATION
:
Required:
Completion of 11 th grade
Preferred:
High School Diploma or
GED EXPERIENCE
:
Required:
Six (6) months of experience in grounds maintenance work.
Preferred:
Six (6) months of experience in grounds maintenance work in a commercial setting Experience with sprinkler systems and concrete work
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES
:
Required:
Valid Texas Class C Driver's License with a 3-year safe driving record. Mow, seed, water, mulch, fertilize, and apply chemicals to lawns, turf and outside/inside plants. Transplant, prune, trim and cultivate trees, shrubs, ground cover, and flowers. Inspect plant materials for insects, disease, physical and mechanical damage and identify replacements. Store and care for bulbs in the winter season. Trim and edge around trees, shrubs, ground cover, flowers, sidewalks and buildings. Set up, adjust, repair, and clean irrigation systems. Provide a record log of grounds and landscape watering and chemical spraying usage. Install, remove, repair, and maintain landscape lighting, signs, cables, chains, barricades, gates, bicycle racks, posts fences, and rock walls as applicable. Rake, sweep and bag leaves, debris dirt and trash from streets, sidewalks, parking lots, courts and other Amarillo College grounds area. Prepare outdoor locations for use by students, staff, visitors, vendors, and the public as needed. Perform routine and preventative maintenance on grounds equipment. Perform other related duties as required. Salary:
Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position. Pay grade 4 Amarillo College Pay Grades (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands:
Requires the ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, push, stretch, bend, climb/work on ladders/scaffolds, and get down to work on hands and knees. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Conditions:
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)
Working Environment:
This position operates predominately in an outdoor environment, which may occur in a variety of inclement weather. Standard equipment used in this position are weed-eaters, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, snow blowers, shovels, saws, pick-up trucks, street sweepers, carts, push and riding lawn mowers, and various hand-tools.
