Job Description
Garden Center Business Manager We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Garden Center Business Manager to oversee the daily operations of our retail garden center. This individual will be responsible for sales performance, customer service, inventory management, point-of-sale operations, merchandising, and staff supervision. Responsibilities Oversee all daily garden center operations, including opening and closing procedures. Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise garden center employees. Create a positive work environment focused on teamwork and exceptional customer service. Develop and implement sales strategies to meet or exceed revenue goals. Monitor inventory levels, coordinate product ordering, and ensure proper stock rotation. Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of the point-of-sale (POS) system. Troubleshoot POS hardware, software, printers, payment-processing equipment, and connectivity issues as they arise. Coordinate with POS technical support when an issue cannot be resolved internally. Train employees on proper POS procedures and ensure transactions, returns, discounts, and inventory adjustments are entered accurately. Create attractive seasonal displays that effectively showcase plants, pottery, garden products, and merchandise. Assist customers with plant selection, gardening advice, lawn care products, and general horticultural questions. Work with the marketing team to promote products through social media, e-commerce, and other marketing platforms. Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming retail environment. Ensure compliance with company policies and all applicable safety regulations. Qualifications Previous garden center management, retail management, or closely related experience. Strong knowledge of plants, gardening practices, and lawn care products. Proven leadership skills and the ability to train and motivate a team. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to increase sales and achieve revenue goals. Must be highly computer literate and comfortable learning and managing new technology. Strong working knowledge of POS systems, inventory software, email, spreadsheets, and standard business applications. Must be able to independently identify, troubleshoot, and resolve common POS system and computer-related problems. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail. Retail sales and merchandising experience is preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.
