Job Description

JOB OBJECTIVES
Under immediate supervision of the Parks Superintendent and/or his designee. Is responsible for general labor of corresponding department. No responsibility for reports and/or records. Decisions are made on a routine level. Position has little or no contact with the public. The position has no super­visory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Maintain lawns at all public buildings on a daily basis. 2. Pick up trash at city facilities. 3. Trim trees at all city facilities as needed. 4. Requires lifting items 20-50 pounds in weight periodically (trash cans, misc. equipment. 5. Must assist in lifting 100-200 pounds occasionally (bleachers, playground equipment, pic­nic tables, etc. 6. Work with power tools (Ex. Drill, weed eaters, chainsaws, etc.) daily. 7. Operate 15 - 30 hp garden tractors. 8. May require working with chemicals. 9. Ensures that city vehicle is properly maintained and serviced. 10. Reports damages and graffiti to city facilities. 11. Will perform physical and manual labor on a daily and continuous basis. 12. Work in a variety of weather conditions. 13. Duties involve considerable bending, lifting, digging, carrying, or walking with little chance for variety, and/or using force equal to lifting 20-50 pounds periodically (chain saws, trash cans, misc. equipment. 14. Will perform other duties as assigned for different events (Ex. parades, celebration cere­monies, etc). 15. Perform other related duties as required.
EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS
City vehicle, two-way radio, trade tools, general garden tools, weed eaters, push mowers, chain saws, hedgers, blowers, and 15 - 30 hp garden tractors.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Some unusual working hours, irregular hours or shifts, may involve occasional travel. Exposure to hazards which might result in serious injury or death, may work under extreme outdoor conditions. Continuous lifting of heavy materials, constant physical movement; demands physical strength asso­ciated with hard labor or forceful physical contacts. Must be able to lift 15-25 lbs.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIRED
Must have a minimum of six (6) months related experience to perform effectively, with little supervision, in work situations which are varied or which have deviations and irregularities. Must be able to perform strenuous manual labor tasks; able to follow oral instructions; able to work under extreme weather conditions. Must possess a valid, Texas Drivers License. Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent; however, will be afforded an opportunity to acquire within nine (9) months if the applicant does not possess one at the time of employment.
