Description Performs a variety of maintenance work contributing to the care and upkeep of the MSU Texas campus. This is accomplished by maintaining the safety and appearance of all grounds, working conscientiously near people, wildlife, vehicles, buildings, sculptures, and monuments, ensuring readiness of special event sites, maintaining safe and efficient operation of equipment, and completing related work as assigned. Reports directly to Grounds Superintendent and under general supervision of a Grounds Foreperson. Examples Participates in work such as trash cleanup, turf maintenance, trimming shrubs, installing plants, pruning trees, irrigation maintenance, application of pesticides, installing signs, hauling mulch, grading soil, minor construction, and minor pavement repair.

May assist with maintenance of athletic facilities including artificial and natural turf. During inclement weather, mandatory response involves the removal of snow, ice, leaves, fallen branches, and other weather-generated debris from all campus grounds. Physical Condition Must be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds. Must be able to work while squatting as well as be able to bend and pull. Must be able to reach approximately 30 inches in all directions. Requires employment physical exam. Experience Prior experience is not required. Professional experience in groundskeeping, gardening, farming, construction, nursery trade, or similar is a plus. Knowledge Practice of safe techniques while handling related materials, chemicals, and power equipment is necessary. Basic knowledge of turf maintenance is helpful. Willingness to learn more technical details about turf management, arbor care, irrigation repair, plant identification, and pesticide chemistry is a plus. Education High school diploma or GED. Additional Requirements Must have a valid, Class C driver's license. Good observational skills and oral + written communication skills are required. Must demonstrate proficiency with small engine tools and heavier equipment such as riding mowers, tractors, and excavators. Ability to interpret maps and photos is a plus.
