- Part-time, Contract Facilities & Groundskeeper Position Overview We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Facilities & Groundskeeper to join our team and help ensure the upkeep of our campus.
This part-time position involves a mix of outdoor landscaping and facility maintenance, with a focus on keeping our buildings and grounds in top condition. You will be responsible for maintaining both the aesthetic appearance of the campus and the functionality of its systems. Building Issues:
Serve as the first point of contact for building-related concerns, including climate control, odors, smoke, spills, damage, emergencies, and repairs.
Routine Maintenance:
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment and systems, including plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems, ensuring they are in optimal working condition.
Mowing & Grounds Maintenance:
Take the lead on grounds upkeep, including mowing, weed-eating, trimming, and other landscaping tasks to ensure a clean and aesthetically pleasing campus. Regularly inspect and maintain outdoor spaces, providing year-round campus beautification.
Plumbing & Electrical Skills:
Conduct minor plumbing repairs (e.g., fixing leaks, unclogging drains) and electrical work (e.g., replacing light fixtures, basic wiring) as needed, and escalate issues to specialized contractors when necessary.
Vendor Oversight:
Monitor the performance of contractors and outside vendors to ensure quality service and timely completion of projects, meeting all specifications.
Emergency Response:
Quickly address building emergencies, perform necessary repairs, and ensure a safe environment during and after incidents.
Lighting & Electrical:
Replace light bulbs, troubleshoot electrical issues, and determine when professional electricians are needed.
Construction & Repair Projects:
Support or independently manage small construction and repair projects, from installation to completion.
Campus Beautification:
Assist with improving and maintaining the campus aesthetic, including trimming trees, planting flowers, and ensuring all outdoor areas are neat and attractive.
Collaborative Support:
Assist with departmental and employee moves, transporting goods, and setting up or dismantling furniture and equipment as needed.
Quality Control:
Perform regular inspections of janitorial and landscaping subcontractor work to ensure consistent quality.
Budgeting & Vendor Coordination:
Assist the Operations Manager in preparing the annual maintenance budget and sourcing bids/quotes from vendors.
Additional Duties:
Take on other tasks as assigned to ensure campus facilities run smoothly and efficiently. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in confined spaces, on ladders, and on rooftops. Comfortable working outdoors, in varying weather conditions (up to 95% of the time). Must have or be willing to acquire necessary tools for daily tasks. Flexibility to work a variable schedule and travel locally as needed. Ability to perform basic plumbing (e.g., unclogging drains) and electrical tasks (e.g., replacing light bulbs, circuit troubleshooting). Strong mechanical skills and aptitude for performing minor repairs and maintenance. Desired Qualifications Technical degree or certification in a related field (e.g., facilities maintenance, electrical, plumbing). Previous experience in general construction, maintenance, or landscaping. Solid understanding of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems. Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) in English. Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines and maintain high standards. Detail-oriented with a passion for campus beautification and landscaping. Familiarity with MS Office Suite and smartphone apps for work coordination.
