Job Description

NOTE:
Only applications submitted through the City of Oshkosh website will be considered. The City of Oshkosh is hiring a Lead Landscape Operations Technician in the Buildings & Grounds Division. This hands-on leadership position performs skilled grounds maintenance, urban forestry, cemetery, and facility maintenance work while helping coordinate daily crew activities. This position helps maintain City-owned buildings and public spaces, including parks, cemeteries, zoological facilities, museums, libraries, offices, shops, and other municipal facilities. Key Responsibilities Serve as a working lead by training, guiding, and working alongside full-time, seasonal, part-time, and volunteer staff. Assist supervisors with daily work planning, crew assignments, project coordination, and work prioritization. Perform and provide technical direction for urban forestry work, including planting, pruning, maintaining, and removing trees, shrubs, and landscape plantings. Support cemetery operations, including burials, grave preparation, and grounds upkeep. Perform grounds, custodial, building maintenance, equipment maintenance, and snow and ice removal duties. Maintain daily activity reports, equipment use records, inventory records, and other required documentation. Provide guidance on safe work practices, proper equipment use, and division procedures. Assist with contractor coordination, emergency response, special events, and citywide operations as needed. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; an Associates Degree in Arboriculture, Horticulture, Urban Forestry or a related field is highly desirable. At least five years of experience in a Forestry Division or other municipal tree care operation. Valid Wisconsin CDL, Class A, with no air brake restrictions; or ability to obtain within six months of hire. International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist credential. Wisconsin pesticide and ornamental license; or ability to obtain within one year of hire. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate has strong experience in urban forestry, grounds maintenance, equipment operation, and crew leadership. This person is safety-focused, dependable, comfortable working outdoors in all seasons, and able to communicate professionally with staff, contractors, and the public.
