Job Description

Overview The Agriculture Coordinator is responsible for the care, maintenance, and development of BINA Farm Center's agriculture areas, including raised garden beds and a small flock of ducks. This hands-on position oversees the full growing cycle of BINA's vegetables, herbs, and flowers—from seed starting and planting through ongoing care and harvest—as well as the daily care and maintenance of the ducks and their living areas. The Agriculture Coordinator also helps make agriculture an engaging and accessible part of the BINA community. This includes training and supporting volunteers, providing hands-on learning opportunities, and sharing knowledge about gardening, food production, animal care, and related agricultural topics with children, adolescents, and adults. Garden and Plant Care Oversee the seasonal planning, planting, maintenance, and harvesting of BINA's raised garden beds, including vegetables, herbs, flowers, and other seasonal plantings. Manage the growing process from seed to harvest, including starting seeds indoors using BINA's plant light cart, monitoring seedlings, and transplanting plants outdoors. Determine appropriate timing for planting, transplanting, harvesting, and seasonal garden transitions. Provide routine garden care, including watering, weeding, pruning, and other maintenance necessary to support healthy plant growth. Monitor plants for pests, disease, and other health concerns and address or communicate concerns as appropriate. Harvest vegetables, herbs, flowers, and other garden products as they become ready. Prepare garden beds for seasonal transitions, including spring preparation, fall cleanup, and winterization. Maintain gardening tools, equipment, seeds, and supplies in a clean, safe, and organized manner. Monitor inventory and communicate supply and maintenance needs to the Barn & Facility Manager. Help identify opportunities to improve and further develop BINA's gardens and agriculture program. Duck Care Provide consistent care for BINA's flock of 10 ducks. Feed ducks and ensure appropriate access to clean, fresh drinking water. Clean and refill duck pool. Regularly clean duck houses, bedding, enclosures, and surrounding areas. Maintain clean, safe, and appropriate living spaces for the ducks. Monitor the ducks' general health, behavior, and overall well-being and promptly communicate any concerns to the Barn & Facility Manager. Maintain an adequate inventory of feed, bedding, cleaning materials, and other duck-care supplies and communicate needs as appropriate. Volunteer Training and Support Train, guide, and support volunteers assisting with gardening, planting, harvesting, duck care, and other agriculture-related responsibilities. Provide clear instruction and hands-on demonstrations to ensure volunteers understand how to safely and effectively complete assigned tasks. Help volunteers build their knowledge, skills, and confidence related to gardening and animal care. Assign and adapt volunteer tasks based on individual experience and comfort level. Provide appropriate supervision and ongoing support while encouraging volunteer independence when appropriate. Agriculture Education and Participant Engagement Develop and facilitate agriculture-related workshops, activities, and hands-on learning opportunities throughout the year as programming opportunities arise. Engage children, adolescents, and adults in meaningful agricultural experiences. Provide education on topics such as gardening, seed starting, plant life cycles, harvesting, food production, sustainability, and duck care. Adapt activities and instruction to support individuals with a variety of abilities, learning styles, ages, and experience levels. Create opportunities for participants to take an active role in planting, garden care, harvesting, and animal care when appropriate. Support agriculture-related activities during BINA programs and community gatherings. Engage participants, families, volunteers, and visitors in learning about BINA's gardens, ducks, and agriculture program.
