Overview The goal of this position is to keep the Paris Park well kept and equipment running smoothly. The individual performs a variety of manual labor maintenance tasks requiring considerable effort. Unskilled to semi-skilled tasks to maintain grounds and facilities through the park in a manicured, operational, and safe condition for use by the general public is required. The individual reports any situation that might require attention such as speeding, noise, complaints, malfunctioning equipment, damaged or missing park property to the Park Manager or Office Manager. Responsibilities Operates and performs basic preventative maintenance on park equipment including riding mowers, push mowers, string trimmers, backpack blowers, tractors and utility vehicles safely. Mows and trims grass, trees, and shrubs using hand and power tools, hand and riding mowers, seeds and fertilizes grass areas: weeds garden areas. Rakes and hauls leaves using rakes and leaf blowers, moves dirt and rocks as instructed. Clears brush and dead trees and sets new trees as specified using ladders and chain saws. Cleans shelters, restrooms, and other parks and building facilities, replenishes supplies, makes minor repairs, and mops as necessary. Removes litter and debris from facilities and public areas and empties trash containers using utility vehicles and equipment. Provides additional trash barrels, picnic tables, grills and recreation equipment where needed. Assists in the construction, maintenance, repair, painting, and/or restoration of signs, footbridges, trails, parking barriers, picnic tables, grills, wooden equipment and structures, park and facility projects and equipment. Uses power tools such as skill saws, chain saws, drills, and sprayers. Provides minor maintenance to county motorize vehicles and equipment such as grease jobs, oil and filter changes, and minor parts replacement. Repairs and maintenance recreation and playground equipment. Maintains awareness of surroundings for guest safety and reports any concerns to management. Maintains proper uniform and appearance standards. Resolves guest concerns calmly and professionally. Performs other work-related duties as assigned by management. Requirements Applicant must be 18 years old or older. Obtain a Chauffeur's License to drive individuals and tubes to the Muskegon River for our tubing activity. Due to the nature of the job, employees will be expected to work weekends and holidays. A standard workweek consists of up to forty hours per week, four to five days a week with two days off per week. Work schedule, days off and break periods are determined by the Park Manager or Office Manager. Employees shall report to work on time and stay on duty for their entire scheduled shift but may be sent home during slow business periods or inclement weather. Comply with the County of Mecosta Drug Free Workplace Policy as a condition of employment. Pass a pre-employment physical and lift 35 pounds. Must be a self-motivator and demonstrate good customer service and communication skills. Possess knowledge and be capable of performing basic to moderate maintenance and landscaping duties. Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time (6-8 hours) and be agreeable to work in all outdoor weather conditions including heat, humidity, rain, cold, dark, and environments with insects and wildlife presence. Conduct, both inside and outside the park boundaries, whether in uniform or not, should convey a favorable impression to the public and never reflect negatively upon the Mecosta County Park Commission. Employees are expected to always remain professional while interacting with patrons, management, and co-workers. This position is available now until the end of the park season on or before October 9, 2026.
