THE POSITION

The DCNR Ranger Supervisor position with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources offers an exciting chance to lead important work that protects the Sproul State Forest. This role allows you to guide rangers, support safe outdoor recreation, and help maintain forest resources. You will make a strong impact by promoting safety and stewardship across thousands of acres. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides leadership and guidance to rangers who support public safety, forest protection, and visitor services throughout the Sproul State Forest. It involves supervising patrol activities, reviewing reports, and ensuring enforcement of forest laws and regulations. As a DCNR Ranger Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:

Ranger Supervision:

Direct daily work of rangers and review patrol logs, incident reports, and citations for accuracy

Law Enforcement:

Enforce forest rules and regulations and support investigations and prosecution of violations

Patrol Oversight:

Guide patrol operations by vehicle, on foot, or by equipment such as ATVs and snowmobiles

Facility Support:

Assist with maintaining campsites, access areas, informational signs, and recreational trails

Emergency Response:

Respond to incidents, aid injured persons, and assist with search and rescue activities

Training Management:

Organize schedules, provide on-the-job instruction, and complete performance evaluations for rangers Interested in learning more? Additional details regarding this position can be found in the position description.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment Work hours follow a varying schedule while completing a 40 hour, 5 day workweek with a 30 minute paid lunch, including work on weekends, holidays, and all shifts as needed for operations

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

One year of experience as a DCNR Ranger (commonwealth title); or One year of experience as a forest or park ranger at a park or recreational facility which includes the authority to exercise the powers of arrest; and completion of 15 college credits in natural or environmental sciences, natural resource management, parks or outdoor recreation, forestry, environmental education, ecology, wildlife management, or a closely related field; or 18 months of experience as a forest or park ranger at a park or recreational facility which includes the authority to exercise the powers of arrest.

Special Requirements:

Must be at least 21 years of age at time of employment. All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license. All employees must obtain commission as a State Park or State Forest Officer and maintain this commission for the duration of employment in this job. All employees must obtain valid certification in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR approved by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent during the probationary period. All employees must pass psychological testing (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). Failure to pass this test is a basis for removal from the position. All employees must pass Pennsylvania State Police and FBI Criminal Background Checks. A record of conviction of a criminal offense for which more than one year in prison can be imposed as punishment is a basis for removal from the position.

Legal Requirements:

You must pass a background investigation. This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
