Job Description

Dutchess County Department of Public Works - Highway 2026
Salary:
$55,228 This is a permanent position in the Dutchess County Department of Public Works - Highway Division. This position Performs semi-skilled tasks in connection with the pruning, trimming, spraying, transplanting and felling of trees. This position differs from Tree Trimmer in that incumbents in this position are required to climb trees and work from aerial lift trucks while tree trimmers work on the ground and from Assistant Tree Climber because it does not have supervisory responsibilities. The work is performed under the direct supervision of Tree Maintenance Supervisor or Tree Climber. To view a complete list of job duties, click here.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of full-time paid experience in tree maintenance, tree removal or trimming of trees. Experience climbing trees is required in order to be considered for this position. Candidate needs to indicate experience that includes the safe operation, care, and maintenance of various hand and power tools, including hand saws, gas-powered chain saws, and/or other equipment related to tree maintenance and/or removal activities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
: Candidates must possess a valid New York State Class B Commercial Driver's License at time of application and to maintain position. This license must contain no restrictions other than those relating to personal physical conditions. Such restrictions will be reviewed on a case by case basis for compatibility with job duties and will not be an automatic bar to employment. A copy of the current valid license is required at time of application in order to be able to be considered for appointment.
SPECIAL NOTE
: Applicants for positions that require driving a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) at any time will be required to undergo controlled substances and at our discretion, alcohol testing prior to employment and will be subject to further testing throughout their period of employment. Applicants will also be asked to sign forms for release of information from previous employers in all cases where driving a CMV was one of your functions. Failure to sign will prevent this employer from using you as a CMV driver.
