GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to students developing as mature, able and responsible men and women. Responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating instruction based upon specific goals and objectives established by Hanover County Public Schools and Virginia Standards of Learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
(These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. Demonstrates mastery of content area; Prepares daily instruction and activities using the division's curriculum to assigned classes and shows evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisors; Assesses students' learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs; Develops summative tests of students' learning and uses results for further student instruction, grading, and placement; Develops and maintains a favorable psychological and physical environment that is conducive to effective learning; Maintains order and encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior within the classroom setting in accordance with division guidelines regarding pupil behavior management. Selects and utilizes materials and resources appropriate to the students' instructional levels; Organizes learning activities to achieve specific concepts; Attends and participates in district and school level in-service training programs, faculty and department meetings; Establishes friendly and cooperative relationships between the home and the school; Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relations with others; Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence; Respects the home responsibility of parents for their children; Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities; Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations; Performs other duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school division's policies and practices.
Qualifications:
KSA's, Education
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Comprehensive knowledge of: current practices, techniques, and methods of teaching; the principles of educational testing and principles and methods of remedial education; effective means of supervision and instruction as applied to the work of Instructional Assistants; the needs and requirements of working with students with disabilities; the principles and methods of educational research.
Ability to:
apply modern methods and principles of education to pupils functioning at the elementary and/or secondary school level; maintain an interest in the positive improvement and development of children, adolescents, or adults of normal and/or impaired learning ability; maintain proper discipline; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution. Must hold or be eligible for Virginia Teacher License w/endorsement in applicable subject area.
Preferred:
Master's Degree from accredited institution. Terms of Employment

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS
Must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees, students and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Physical capability to use and operate effectively various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Work is typically performed in a school setting including; classroom, gym, cafeteria, auditorium and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds may be required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be required. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Daily personal and close contact with students to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with other staff members and parents is required. Frequent contact with parents by phone, email, and in person as necessary.
