Job Description

JOB Under the general management of the Community Services Director, and the specific supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the programs, management, and routine maintenance of the City of Big Spring Aquatic Center, a summer seasonal aquatic facility.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Plan, organize, and promote a variety of aquatic programs.

Plan and assign all schedules for those who work at the aquatic center, ensuring that the aquatic center is properly and sufficiently staffed.

Train attendants.

Conduct a timely evaluation of the aquatic center attendant.

Maintain and complete accurate records of pool operations, including time sheets, daily reports, accidents, incidents, attendance, finances, and required records for the Health Department.

Inventory and recommend for purchase all necessary forms, supplies, and equipment.

Oversee the general custodial cleaning of the entire aquatic facility, including vacuuming, hosing of decks, cleaning filters and restrooms, etc., as needed.

Schedule and run weekly staff meetings, in-service training, including lifeguard first aid skills, facility maintenance, emergency procedures, and other applicable information.

Oversee crowd control and enforcement of safety regulations.

Assist the public in a courteous manner.

Organize special approved aquatic programs to meet community needs.

In charge of chemical and water testing logs, making sure they are at appropriate levels.

Responsible for reconciliation of daily receipts and deposits.

Other related duties as required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Basic philosophy of a sound community recreation program and the ability to interpret that philosophy to staff and the public.

Basic pool chemical testing techniques and maintenance operations.

Aquatic facility operations including scheduling of programs and personnel.

Local State requirements on pool management.

Basic First Aid practices.

Perform a wide variety of pool supervision including hiring, scheduling, training, and directing of pool staff.

Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both within the City of Big Spring and with the general public.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Work outdoors in summer heat.

Knowledge of City and department safety policies and procedures.

Handle emergency situations effectively and efficiently.

Lift and carry first aid or drowning victims as required by Certificate regulations.
SUPERVISORY
CONTROLThe Aquatic Center Manager assigns work based on general instructions. Completed work is reviewed for accuracy, compliance with procedures, and the nature and propriety of the results.

GUIDELINESGuidelines are City codes and ordinances, relevant federal and state laws, departmental rules, city policies and procedures, and instructions from the supervisor. Guidelines are usually clear and specific, but require some interpretation in application.

PHYSICAL
DEMANDSOutdoors:
exposed to sun and water most of the time. Work is pleasant most of the time. Ability to sit, stand, and drive a vehicle to and from various worksites. Employees will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while performing maintenance duties and to mechanical and chemical hazards. Ability to lift materials weighing up to 30 pounds frequently and 50-90 pounds occasionally, and be able to drag up to 80 pounds occasionally. Ability to bend, stoop, walk, push brooms, and sweep. Ability to walk over sloped and uneven terrain. Work involves getting dirty and wet. Employees will be exposed to dirt, dust, noise, fumes, and odors.

WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is performed poolside.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT
RESPONSIBILITYThis position has direct supervision over Senior Attendant (1) and Attendants (12).
