An Asphalt Worker, Screed Worker, or Paver operates machinery used to apply and repair different types of pavement, such as asphalt, concrete, or stone pavers.
Job Foreman Full-time Non-Exempt Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the foreman, the Paver-Screed Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the paving machine and/or screed used for applying asphalt to roads and parking lots. Paver-Screed Operators will perform many of the following tasks: Follow all health and safety regulations, including wearing personal protective equipment Follow and complete all tasks requested by the foreman or more experienced coworker Operate the paver and/or screed and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment Operate shovel, broom, ax, rake, hacksaw, jackhammer, picks, chop saw, vibrating plates, torch, and rotary hammer Chop asphalt edges Must be attentive to equipment sights and sounds on the jobsite Operate asphalt paver and/or screed to apply asphalt per plans and quality specifications as instructed by the foreman to ensure daily schedules/estimates are met Take direction from the Roller Operator and/or Asphalt Rakers regarding depth requirements Screed operation on the asphalt paver involves making normal adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade and finished cross section of asphalt material via screed controls Ability to guide and direct dump trucks while backing up to the machine hopper when operating paver Manipulates hand or foot levers to control movements of machine spreads and levels asphalt on subgrade of roadway and related surfaces such as parking lots Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving Train new employees in the safe and efficient operation of the paver and/or screed Operate other heavy equipment and other construction related duties as required or instructed by the foreman.
Construction Laborer Requirements and Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years old Must have a valid California driver's license Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks Ability to work in all weather Ability to work overtime, including weekends Excellent hand, eye, and foot coordination Attention to detail Be punctual and reliable Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift to 50 pounds Ability to navigate construction job site terrain Ability to work independently or as an active member of a team Have good personal skills and communication with all levels of management and coworkers 2 Must have at least four years' experience as a construction paving laborer and/or operator for Burtch Construction
