We are seeking an experienced Asphalt Paving Project Manager to help prepare, coordinate, and manage commercial and private paving projects from pre-job review through completion. This is not a general construction project-management position. The successful candidate must have direct, hands-on knowledge of asphalt paving operations and understand what it takes to set up a job correctly before the crew mobilizes. You will be responsible for reviewing proposals and site conditions, identifying missing scope or production risks, coordinating materials and equipment, supporting field crews, communicating with customers, and helping protect job profitability. What You'll Do Review awarded proposals, plans, specifications, site photos, and customer requirements before work begins. Visit job sites to verify existing conditions, access, measurements, elevations, drainage, transitions, ADA concerns, utilities, and potential scope conflicts. Confirm paving quantities, square footage, asphalt thickness, tonnage, mix requirements, waste factors, and production needs. Identify required preparation work, including demolition, sawcutting, milling, dig-outs, base repair, compaction, patching, grading, and striping coordination. Build complete pre-job plans for asphalt paving crews, including equipment, manpower, trucking, plant scheduling, traffic control, subcontractors, and material needs. Coordinate with asphalt plants, trucking companies, equipment operators, subcontractors, dispatch, foremen, and customers. Ensure every job is properly prepared before mobilization to reduce downtime, rework, missed scope, and unnecessary remobilizations. Manage project schedules and communicate job status, changes, weather impacts, access restrictions, and production concerns. Work directly with foremen and field crews to resolve jobsite issues quickly and keep work moving safely and efficiently. Create and track change orders, document additional work, and communicate pricing or scope changes with customers and internal management. Monitor job costs, production, labor, trucking, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs against estimate. Support project closeout, customer follow-up, punch-list work, and final documentation. Maintain organized job files, site documentation, photos, plans, purchase orders, material tickets, and project notes. Help improve internal job setup, dispatch, scheduling, and job-costing processes. Required Experience Minimum 5 years of direct asphalt paving experience required. Previous experience as an Asphalt Project Manager, Estimator/Project Manager, Paving Superintendent, Paving Foreman, Field Superintendent, or similar asphalt operations role. Strong working knowledge of commercial asphalt paving, repairs, overlays, milling, patching, demolition, base repair, compaction, drainage, and striping coordination. Ability to read plans, proposals, specifications, site plans, and civil drawings. Experience calculating asphalt tonnage, paving quantities, labor needs, trucking requirements, and equipment needs. Knowledge of asphalt mix types, plant scheduling, trucking logistics, paver and roller production, and paving crew workflow. Ability to identify field conditions that can affect cost, schedule, safety, quality, or customer expectations. Experience managing customer communication, jobsite changes, change orders, and project documentation. Valid California driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to travel locally to active and upcoming job sites throughout the Sacramento-area market. Preferred Qualifications Experience estimating asphalt paving projects and preparing proposals. Experience with HOA, retail, commercial, industrial, multifamily, private-property, municipal, or public-works paving projects. Familiarity with California prevailing-wage and certified-payroll requirements. Experience coordinating subcontractors, traffic control, striping, concrete, drainage, and related site work. Familiarity with construction-management, estimating, dispatch, scheduling, or job-costing software. Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are a plus. Compensation Base salary of $120,000-$140,000 per year , depending on direct asphalt paving experience and project-management capability. Performance-based bonus opportunity.
