Job Description
Sawcross, Inc. is a general contracting and engineering company based out of Jacksonville that constructs water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, and master pumping stations. We are a well-established contractor specializing in water and wastewater treatment plant construction. We are currently hiring experienced Heavy Equipment Operators for a long-term infrastructure project. This is a great opportunity to work on a high-profile job with guaranteed Davis-Bacon wages and consistent work for at least two years. About the Role We are seeking an experienced Finish Dozer Operator to support earthwork operations for a Water Treatment Plant project. The ideal candidate has strong fine‑grading skills, understands civil construction site requirements, and can work efficiently and safely around utilities, crews, and other heavy equipment. Operating is only 20 percent of your daily tasks you will work alongside the pipe crew on the ground or in the hole the other 80 percent of the day. Key Responsibilities Operate finish dozers to perform precise grading , backfilling, and contouring to project specifications. Work closely with site supervisors to complete fine-grade work for pads, tanks, pipelines, lagoons, access roads, and structural areas of the treatment plant. Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans Maintain equipment through daily inspections and reporting of maintenance issues. Follow all safety procedures, especially when working near underground utilities, trenches, and water structures . Assist with general labor or other equipment as needed to support project progress. Qualifications 3+ years of finish dozer operating experience (preferably in heavy civil or water treatment plant projects). Strong fine‑grading ability with attention to detail. Experience with GPS machine control (Trimble, Topcon, etc.) is a plus. Ability to work safely in active construction zones. Reliable transportation and ability to work full shifts outdoors. Physical Requirements Ability to climb on/off machinery, sit for extended periods, and work in various weather conditions. Ability to perform occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
