Projected April 6, 2026 Position Overview Poe Asphalt is seeking an experienced Lead Operator - Prep Crew to support asphalt paving operations in the Lewiston/Clarkston region. This is a hands-on, working-lead position focused on equipment operation, job site preparation, and field coordination. The ideal candidate has strong field leadership skills, solid grading and excavation experience, and the ability to communicate effectively with crews, management, and inspectors. Key Responsibilities Lead and supervise prep crew operations including grading, base preparation, excavation, and site readiness Read and interpret plans, grades, job specifications, and job site staking Communicate effectively with project managers, superintendents, paving crews, truck drivers, equipment operators, customers, and inspectors Ensure job sites are properly prepared and on schedule prior to paving operations Enforce all safety standards and always company policies Train, mentor, and develop crew members with clear expectations for quality and productivity Operate equipment as needed and assist with hands-on prep work in the field Required Qualifications Prior experience in asphalt paving and/or heavy civil construction experience Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to read grades, understand site plans, and manage elevation control Valid driver's license and CDL Reliable, safety-minded, and able to work long days during peak paving season Equipment & Technical Experience Proficient in grading equipment operation, including: Large graders (CAT 160 or similar) Small blades or Huber Skid steers Rollers Water trucks Proficient in excavation equipment operation, including: Large excavators Mini excavators Wheel loaders Strong understanding of grade elevation control, water drainage, construction hubs, and finish grading Union & Workplace Requirements Membership in Operators Union 302 is required after hire Current members preferred Non-members welcome but must be willing to join upon employment Drug & alcohol-free workplace — testing required Must comply with all safety and job site regulations Wages Union wages per Operators Union 302 (WA) agreement & exerpience; and full union benefits.
