Here Work Schedule:
Monday
  • Thursday (6:30a
  • 5:00p) "or" Tuesday
  • Friday (6:30a-5:00p) The position is assigned to a 40-hour workweek with a 30-minute lunch.
The schedule may change during holiday weeks or emergency operations and may require nights, weekends, holidays, or extended hours with little or no notice. Employees assigned to the City's snow and ice removal program may be required to work 12-hour shifts during winter weather or other weather-related events. This hands-on position supports the maintenance and improvement of Greensboro's streets and public infrastructure. You'll work alongside an experienced crew performing asphalt and concrete work, operating trucks and job-specific equipment, and helping keep roadways safe and accessible for residents. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, learning new skills, operating equipment, and seeing the direct results of their work in the community. No two days are exactly the same. From asphalt repairs to snow and ice operations, your work will directly contribute to the transportation infrastructure residents depend on every day.

Role:
The Crew Member
  • Asphalt performs hands-on construction and maintenance work supporting the City's street infrastructure.
Must maintain a reliable means of contact, such as a home or cellular telephone.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate job-specific equipment and commercial vehicles, including single-axle and tandem-axle dump trucks . Assist with laying asphalt and pouring concrete. Shovel, rake, and lute asphalt. Assist with asphalt paving and roadway maintenance activities. Work safely in and around traffic and heavy equipment. Operate trucks and equipment during the City's snow and ice removal program . Assist with emergency and weather-related operations. Follow verbal and written instructions. Follow established safety procedures and work practices. Perform physically demanding work, including: Standing Stooping Bending Kneeling Climbing Walking on uneven surfaces Shoveling Lifting up to 50 pounds Work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Maintain dependable attendance. Maintain a reliable means of communication, such as a home or cellular telephone. Obtain and maintain required commercial driving credentials.   • Asphalt position provides an excellent entry point into a career in the Street Maintenance Division of the Greensboro Department of Transportation.
As you gain experience, develop technical skills, obtain your CDL, and demonstrate leadership ability, you may pursue opportunities for increased responsibility.

This job is Non-Exempt and subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Qualifications What You Bring:
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED with outside construction work experience , such as asphalt/paving maintenance or landscaping; "OR" No High School Diploma/GED with 1+ years of outside construction work experience , such as asphalt/paving maintenance or landscaping. Valid Driver's License. Must obtain a Commercial Driver's Permit within 30 days of employment . Must obtain and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement within 120 days of employment .
Preferred Qualifications:
