Here Work Schedule:
Monday - Thursday (6:30a - 5:00p) This is a 40-hour workweek with a 30-minute lunch. The schedule may change during holiday weeks or emergency operations and may require nights, weekends, holidays, or extended hours with little or no notice. Employees will participate in the City's snow and ice removal program and may be required to work 12-hour shifts during winter weather or other weather-related events. This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions , around traffic and heavy equipment. Role:
The purpose of this position is to help maintain City and State streets, sidewalks, rights-of-way, and stormwater infrastructure in a safe and effective manner. You'll work primarily outdoors and may work around traffic, heavy equipment, construction activities, and changing weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform asphalt and street maintenance activities. Repair potholes and damaged pavement. Lay, shovel, rake, and lute asphalt. Pour and finish concrete. Perform general maintenance of streets, sidewalks, rights-of-way, and related infrastructure. Operate single-axle and tandem-axle dump trucks. Operate job-specific construction and maintenance equipment. Drive trucks and operate equipment during snow and ice removal operations. Work safely in and around traffic and heavy equipment. Follow written and verbal instructions. Apply technical and safety training when completing assignments. Work effectively as part of a team while exercising appropriate independent judgment. Perform physically demanding activities, including standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, walking on uneven surfaces, shoveling, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Work outdoors in all weather conditions. Maintain reliable attendance. Maintain a reliable means of contact, such as a home or cellular telephone. What Does Success Look Like? Your First 90 Days A successful new Crew Member will: Learn and consistently follow Transportation safety procedures. Become familiar with City streets, maintenance practices, equipment, and work processes. Demonstrate dependable attendance and a strong commitment to teamwork. Safely perform basic asphalt, paving, concrete, and street maintenance activities. Become comfortable working around traffic and heavy equipment. Demonstrate the ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Begin the process of obtaining the required Commercial Driver's Permit/CDL. Develop confidence operating assigned tools, vehicles, and equipment. Your First Year By the end of the first year, a successful employee will: Obtain and maintain the required Class B CDL with Tanker Endorsement . Demonstrate proficiency in asphalt repair, paving, concrete, and general street maintenance. Safely operate assigned commercial vehicles and equipment. Successfully participate in snow and ice removal operations when needed. Demonstrate increasing independence and sound judgment in completing assignments. High School Diploma/GED with outside construction work experience, such as asphalt/paving maintenance or landscaping; "OR" No High School Diploma/GED with 1+ years of outside construction work experience, such as asphalt/paving maintenance or landscaping. Valid Driver's License. Must obtain a Commercial Driver's Permit within 30 days of employment. Must obtain and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement within 120 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
