Hot Mix Asphalt (HMAC) Level 1B Technician Jones Bros Dirt & Paving Odessa, TX Job Details Full-time From $17 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Construction specifications Blueprint specification interpretation Outdoor work experience Maintenance Driver's License Construction plans Driving Performing background checks Full Job Description Position Summary The HMAC Level 1B Technician performs field and laboratory testing of hot mix asphalt to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality control requirements, and TxDOT standards. The role supports asphalt production, placement, sampling, testing, documentation, and overall quality assurance activities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform HMAC sampling and testing in accordance with TxDOT, ASTM, AASHTO, and project requirements.
- Conduct field testing of hot mix asphalt during production and placement operations.
- Collect representative samples of HMAC, aggregates, and related materials.
- Perform laboratory testing, including gradation, asphalt content, density, volumetric properties, and other required analyses.
- Monitor asphalt temperatures, placement operations, rolling patterns, and compaction activities.
- Conduct in-place density testing using approved equipment and procedures.
- Accurately document test results, sample data, material quantities, locations, and test times.
- Identify nonconforming materials or construction practices and promptly report issues to supervisors or project personnel.
- Maintain accurate daily quality control records and testing reports.
- Calibrate, operate, maintain, and document testing equipment.
- Support HMAC mix verification, production monitoring, and quality control activities.
- Follow all company, project, OSHA, and TxDOT safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory and work environment.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, inspectors, plant personnel, contractors, and other technicians.
- Perform other HMAC quality control and testing duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
- Ability to perform accurate calculations and record test data.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, testing procedures, and quality control requirements.
- Valid driver's license with clean MVR along with at least 3+ years of documented driving experience.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and around heavy construction equipment.
- Must pass drug screen, background check and physical agility test. Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in HMAC quality control or quality assurance.
- Additional TxDOT certifications in asphalt, aggregates, density testing, or roadway construction.
- Experience on TxDOT or similar roadway construction projects.
- Familiarity with asphalt production plants and paving operations.
- Experience using density gauges or other approved density testing equipment.
