MASON / CMU SPECIALIST NG
Builders | Construction Careers NG Builders is growing and is looking for an experienced Mason with strong CMU (Concrete Masonry Unit) experience to join our construction team. We currently have multiple awarded projects that include CMU wall construction, with additional work coming down the pipeline. We are looking to bring masonry expertise in-house by hiring a dependable, skilled individual who specializes in CMU construction and takes pride in producing safe, straight, level, and professional-quality work. This is an opportunity to join a growing construction company with an expanding project workload and become an important part of our field team.
MASON / CMU SPECIALIST
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Mason will be responsible for performing masonry work on our projects from layout and preparation through installation, finishing, and cleanup.
Responsibilities may include:
Layout and construction of CMU block walls Reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, details, and wall layouts Establishing wall lines, elevations, corners, openings, and control points Measuring and laying out masonry work accurately Setting CMU block to proper line, grade, elevation, level, and plumb Building interior and exterior CMU walls Building structural and non-structural masonry walls Laying concrete block, brick, and other masonry materials as required Cutting CMU and masonry materials to required dimensions Mixing and preparing mortar to proper consistency Spreading mortar and setting block Tooling, striking, and finishing mortar joints Installing reinforcing steel, rebar, dowels, and vertical/horizontal reinforcement as shown on the plans Installing bond beams, lintels, embeds, anchors, ties, and other masonry accessories Coordinating placement of reinforcing steel within CMU walls Preparing CMU cells for grout Assisting with and performing grouting of CMU walls Consolidating grout as required Installing masonry around door frames, windows, penetrations, and other openings Coordinating masonry openings and penetrations with other trades Performing masonry repairs, patching, and modifications Removing and replacing damaged block when required Performing demolition of existing masonry as required Cleaning completed masonry surfaces Protecting completed masonry work from damage Maintaining clean and organized work areas Properly storing and handling block, mortar, reinforcement, and other masonry materials Setting up and safely using masonry saws, mixers, grinders, hand tools, and power tools Assisting with material quantities and identifying materials needed to complete assigned work Working efficiently to meet project schedules and production requirements Coordinating with project superintendents, foremen, carpenters, laborers, subcontractors, and other trades Identifying field conflicts or discrepancies and communicating them to supervision before proceeding Following project plans, specifications, manufacturer requirements, and company standards Following all OSHA, company, and project-specific safety requirements
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for an individual with hands-on professional masonry experience, particularly with CMU construction.
The ideal candidate should have:
Previous professional experience as a Mason, Block Mason, or CMU Mason Strong experience laying and constructing CMU walls Knowledge of proper masonry layout and installation methods Ability to read construction plans, details, and specifications Ability to accurately use a tape measure, level, laser, string line, and other layout equipment Understanding of mortar, grout, reinforcing steel, bond beams, lintels, and masonry accessories Experience cutting block and operating masonry-related tools and equipment Ability to construct walls that are straight, level, plumb, and built to plan dimensions Understanding of proper joint finishing and overall masonry appearance Ability to identify problems in the field and communicate them to project supervision Ability to work independently when necessary and as part of a larger construction crew Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship Good communication and teamwork skills Dependability and consistent attendance Strong commitment to jobsite safety
PHYSICAL & JOBSITE REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must be capable of performing the physical duties associated with professional masonry and construction work, including: Lifting, carrying, and positioning CMU block and masonry materials Repeated bending, reaching, kneeling, standing, and lifting Working on active construction sites Working outdoors and in varying weather conditions when required Safely using ladders, scaffolding, and approved access equipment as required for the work Wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Safely operating masonry hand tools and power equipment
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
All applicants must: Have reliable transportation to and from assigned jobsites Be legally authorized to work in the United States Have verifiable professional masonry/construction experience Be dependable, punctual, and ready to work Be willing to travel to different project locations as assigned Follow instructions from project superintendents, foremen, and management Follow company and jobsite safety policies at all times Work professionally and respectfully with coworkers, subcontractors, clients, inspectors, and other project personnel Be prepared to provide professional/work references upon request
