Carpenter I

NATURE OF WORK An employee in this class performs tasks in the field of carpentry and general maintenance. The candidate should be willing and able to perform any task under the carpentry and general maintenance labels, which include, but aren't limited to, pavement repairs, concrete repairs, drywall and other interior building repairs, landscape work, metal working, and any other duties assigned by the department Supervisor.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

Gathers materials to be used. Measures and marks materials for cutting. Cuts and drills wood and other materials using hand and power tools. Repairs pavement and building flaws interior and exterior. Checks accuracy of work with levels, rulers and measuring tapes. Fits and nails sheathing on outer walls and roofs in preparation for boards.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Some knowledge of methods of carpentry work. Some skill in using tools to cut and join materials. Ability to follow simple written instructions. Ability to follow oral instructions with little need for repetition.

SUGGESTED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Some aptitude for carpentry and or metal, landscaping work demonstrated in prior work, school experience or personal activities. This position has been designed to represent the general nature and level of work found in positions in this class.
