  • Role Summary:
  • ABC News Studios is seeking a Head Carpenter to join our team. The ideal candidate will bring a strong knowledge of stage operations, an understanding of live broadcast environments, and a proven ability to lead and coordinate union stagehand crews. This position will serve as a head stagehand for GMA at the 7 Hudson Square facility in New York City.
  • Responsibilities:
  • + Participate in the construction, setup, maintenance, and teardown of scenic, lighting, and property elements for live and recorded programming.

+ Collaborate with art directors, scenic designers, and production engineers to ensure seamless integration of set and lighting designs.

+ Serve as the liaison between Studio Operations, Facilities, and the Local 1 crew to maintain compliance with safety standards.

+ Support the safe and efficient installation and operation of scenic systems, lighting grids, and other production elements.

+ Maintain a clean and safe working environment and ensure adherence to company and industry safety policies.

  • Qualifications:
  • + Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience as a stagehand or in a related position within live broadcast, theatrical, or studio production.

+ Strong knowledge of scenic, lighting, rigging, and property handling.

+ Demonstrated leadership skills with experience coordinating or supervising union labor.

+ Ability to multitask and adapt to changing production needs in a fast-paced environment.

+ Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, extended hours, and holidays as production requires.

+ Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of advanced carpentry skills

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • + Rigging and OSHA 30 certification preferred. + Scissor or Genie lift certification preferred.
  • Required Education:
  • + High School Diploma or equivalent The hiring range for this IATSE local 1 role in New York, NY is $43.

76 per hour. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. The role also has potential for additional compensation for overtime and early morning/overnight shifts. Select benefits may be provided as part of the compensation package, such as medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
