You'll prepare accurate, competitive estimates; analyze plans and technical documents; and support budgets and pricing from pursuit through award and turnover. Your work will directly shape bid strategy, project planning, and overall success across diverse public and private projects. About Us JNR 2 Construction is a growing subcontractor specializing in concrete, masonry, earthwork, underground utilities, and electrical work on public and private projects. We are a certified DBE, SBE, MBE, and LSBE firm, an AGC member, and a protégé of several tier-1 general contractors. As we take on more work, we're seeking an experienced estimator to grow with us. The Role This in-person position at our Inglewood office leads full-cycle estimating for civil and concrete scopes—performing quantity takeoffs, building complete estimates, and helping decide which projects we pursue. Experience in civil/concrete estimating is required. What You'll Do Review plans, specs, addenda, and geotechnical reports for civil and concrete scopes. Perform detailed quantity takeoffs in Bluebeam Revu (concrete, rebar, formwork, excavation, grading, backfill, base, underground utilities). Develop complete estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, trucking, and subcontractors. Use estimating tools (e.g., HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Xactimate, PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff) to ensure accuracy and consistency. Find, track, and manage bid invitations via BuildingConnected, PlanHub, PlanetBids, BidNet, and agency portals. Send RFQs to suppliers/subcontractors; compare and level quotes; negotiate pricing and terms. Write scope letters, inclusions/exclusions, and proposal packages for general contractors. Prepare public works bids using prevailing wage rates; track bid calendars, bonds, and DBE/SBE requirements. Attend pre-bid meetings and job walks; conduct site visits to inform risk and pricing. Use construction management software and spreadsheets to organize data, monitor progress, and update estimates. Ensure estimates align with contractual requirements while maintaining profitability. Support project turnover after award and price change orders. Maintain a historical cost database to improve future bids. What We're Looking For 3-5 years of estimating experience in civil and/or concrete (sitework, flatwork, structural concrete, curb and gutter, sidewalks, foundations, grading, or underground utilities). Strong skills in Bluebeam Revu for takeoffs and markups. Proficiency with estimating platforms/software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Xactimate, PlanSwift, or On-Screen Takeoff; strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills. Hands-on experience with bidding platforms (BuildingConnected, PlanHub, SmartBid, PlanetBids, or similar). Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, and architectural drawings. Solid knowledge of concrete means and methods, production rates, and local material pricing. Experience with public works bidding and prevailing wage. Effective negotiation and communication skills with GCs, suppliers, and subs. Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple bid deadlines. Able to work on-site at our Inglewood office and travel locally for job walks. Nice to Have Experience bidding to public agencies (school districts, cities, counties, transit).
