Job Description
CAD Technician - Precast Concrete Gillespie Precast is seeking a CAD Technician to join our team in Chestertown, Maryland. In this role, you will support the engineering, manufacturing, and quality functions of the organization by developing accurate models, drawings, and documentation for precast concrete structures. Working closely with engineering, sales, and production teams, you will help ensure projects are delivered efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically skilled, and capable of collaborating across departments to support both standard product lines and custom infrastructure solutions. Key Responsibilities Create and revise engineering drawings using Autodesk AutoCAD. Develop submittal and production drawings from project plans, specifications, and engineering requirements. Collaborate with sales, production, engineering, and quality personnel to ensure drawing accuracy and avoid project delays. Assist with preparing job takeoffs, quotations, and submittal packages for customers and sales engineers. Support the design and documentation of both standard products and custom precast concrete structures. Create, maintain, and organize accurate drawing files and project documentation. Review plans and specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements. Incorporate revisions and updates throughout the project lifecycle. Support engineering and production initiatives by providing technical drawing assistance as needed. Additional Responsibilities Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to drafting and documentation processes. Support manufacturing and quality teams in resolving drawing and production-related issues. Participate in project meetings and cross-functional collaboration efforts. Help maintain drawing standards, templates, and drafting best practices. Perform other duties as assigned in support of engineering and manufacturing operations. Required Qualifications
- Associate degree, technical degree, or certificate in Drafting, CAD Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience using Autodesk AutoCAD with demonstrated proficiency in creating and revising technical drawings.
- Ability to read, interpret, and develop technical drawings while applying drafting standards, dimensioning practices, and tolerancing methods.
- Ability to visualize three-dimensional structures from two-dimensional drawings.
- Strong mathematical skills, including geometry, trigonometry, and algebra.
- Strong organizational, time management, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to reliably report to work and maintain regular attendance. Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of drafting, design, or CAD experience.
- Experience with architectural or structural AutoCAD detailing.
- Experience in precast concrete, construction, manufacturing, or civil infrastructure industries.
- Exposure to 3D modeling software and BIM tools.
- Knowledge of engineering and construction drawing standards.
- Experience working with production drawings and fabrication documentation.
- Familiarity with utility, transportation, stormwater, or infrastructure projects.
Compensation & Benefits Salary:
$55,000-$80,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications. Eligibility for a discretionary, performance-based bonus. Health, dental, and vision insurance. 401(k) plan with company match.
