The Assistant Saw Operator supports concrete and asphalt repair cutting under the direction of an authorized Saw Operator. Responsibilities Prepare the work area, saws, tools, water supply, hoses, and barricades before cutting. Assist with measuring and marking approved repair limits and cut locations. Maintain barricades and keep pedestrians, vehicles, and other workers outside the cutting area. Follow required PPE, silica controls, and the approved cutting plan. Keep clear of blades, moving equipment, pinch points, and unsupported cut sections. Manage hoses, cords, water supply, and vacuum lines during cutting. Watch for changing conditions and promptly alert the Saw Operator to hazards or equipment problems. Help inspect, load, secure, clean, and store equipment using approved methods. Collect slurry and debris and keep runoff out of storm drains. Protect adjacent pavement and property, and report conditions outside the marked repair limits. Skills and abilities Follow verbal instructions, radio communication, and hand signals. Read a tape measure and assist with basic layout. Recognize common saw-cutting, utility, traffic, silica, and equipment hazards. Handle tools and equipment safely and report visible defects. Learn saw setup, cutting methods, and equipment care through supervised training. Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.
