Job Description

Heavy Civil Formwork Concrete Superintendent We are seeking a Heavy Civil Formwork Concrete Superintendent to oversee all formwork and concrete activities on assigned projects. This includes building and setting formwork, placing embeds and reinforcing steel, and executing cast-in-place concrete to line, grade, and finish. This role manages field crews, equipment, subcontractors, and production schedules to ensure work is completed safely, on time, within scope, and in accordance with quality standards. The position reports to the General Superintendent or Operations Manager and works closely with the Project Manager. Position Type This is not a remote position. This position operates in an in-person work environment. Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate all formwork and concrete operations, including building and setting formwork, placing embeds and reinforcing steel, and executing cast-in-place concrete to line, grade, and finish Lead and manage field crews, foremen, operators, trucking, and subcontractors to maintain productivity and quality Interpret and implement site plans Coordinate daily manpower, materials, trucking, and heavy equipment (dozers, excavators, graders, compactors, loaders) Prepare daily production reports, including quantities, manpower, equipment utilization, and site conditions Coordinate inspections and testing Identify and resolve field issues proactively to maintain schedule alignment Support the Project Manager with quantity tracking, cost awareness, and change order documentation Promote and enforce a zero-tolerance safety culture across all grading operations Ensure compliance with
OSHA, EM-385
(if applicable), environmental regulations, and site-specific safety plans Enforce proper equipment operation and trench safety standards Conduct and document safety meetings and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) Maintain safe access roads, haul routes, equipment staging, and organized job sites All other duties as assigned Education / Years of Experience 7-10 years of experience in concrete and formwork 3-5 years of supervisory experience overseeing construction crews Skills Proven experience managing concrete/formwork production on projects ranging from $1MM to $20MM+ Strong knowledge of concrete/formwork techniques Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications Experience coordinating with testing agencies and inspectors Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office; scheduling software preferred) Licensure / Certification / Credentials OSHA 30 preferred Clean driving record and ability to pass background checks (if required) Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must be able to provide documentation verifying employment eligibility Candidates must hold a valid driver's license Availability Full-time (40 hours), Monday-Friday Location / Commuting / Travel Candidates must currently reside within commuting distance of the Hampton Roads region, including Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Suffolk, Newport News, or Portsmouth Candidates are responsible for their own transportation to and from work locations This role requires regular travel to project and job sites as part of normal job responsibilities Local candidates are strongly encouraged to apply Candidates slightly outside the described region who are comfortable with an extended commute are welcome to apply Essential Physical Functions Ability to travel to and access active construction sites Ability to walk and stand for extended periods while inspecting project sites Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and navigate scaffolding or uneven terrain when necessary Ability to occasionally bend, kneel, crouch, or reach while reviewing work areas or site conditions Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain, during site visits Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, high-visibility vests, and protective footwear while on construction sites Ability to safely navigate active construction environments that may include noise, dust, moving equipment, and other construction-related hazards Ability to occasionally lift or carry materials, documents, or equipment up to 50 pounds Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position What We Offer Competitive salary and benefits package Opportunities for professional development and career advancement A collaborative and supportive work environment Medical Insurance (3 plans to choose from) Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Company-paid life insurance Supplemental voluntary life insurance (self, spouse, child, and AD&D) Accident and Critical Illness insurance Company-paid Short-Term Disability and Long-Term Disability insurance Legal Resources Benefits Flexible Spending Account Health Savings Account Paid time off
