Position Summary The J. Thomas Company is a high-end residential general contractor known for custom millwork and exacting finish work. We're looking for a Carpenter Foreman to lead field operations across multiple luxury job sites at once. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with real mastery of finish carpentry, custom millwork, and cabinetry installation who is ready to manage and schedule a crew of aprox 10 rough and finish carpenters. The Foreman is the field authority on craftsmanship standards, crew deployment, and daily site sequencing, reporting to the Project Manager or Superintendent on each job. Additionally, this person should be a teacher and mentor, building great craftspeople. Key Responsibilities Supervise and schedule a crew of approximately 10 rough and finish carpenters across multiple concurrent job sites, assigning daily tasks and shifting manpower as priorities change Set and enforce the standard for finish carpentry, custom millwork, and cabinetry installation, reviewing work in progress and correcting issues before they reach the client Read and build from architectural drawings, shop drawings, and millwork specifications to ensure every installation matches design intent Coordinate daily with Project Managers, estimators, and site superintendents on sequencing, material deliveries, and subcontractor scopes Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for clients, designers, and architects during finish phases, representing the company's craftsmanship and professionalism Track progress against schedule at each site and flag delays, scope changes, or material issues early Maintain jobsite safety standards and ensure crew compliance with OSHA and company safety protocols Manage tool and material needs at each site, coordinating deliveries and inventory with the office Mentor rough and junior carpenters on technique and quality standards, and help build and run a structured apprenticeship program that develops them into skilled finish carpenters and future crew leads Complete daily field reports, crew time tracking, and progress documentation Required Experience & Qualifications 8+ years of hands-on experience as a finish carpenter, with substantial time in custom millwork fabrication or installation and cabinetry Prior foreman-level or lead experience overseeing a carpentry crew of 5 or more Track record on high-end residential or luxury construction projects, ideally with exposure to custom architectural millwork and designer-driven finishes Strong command of finish carpentry standards: trim, paneling, built-ins, stair parts, custom cabinetry, and hardware installation Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, elevations, and detailed shop drawings Experience scheduling and coordinating multiple crews or job sites at the same time Interest in training and developing junior carpenters; experience mentoring apprentices or running a formal training program is a strong plus Skills, Certifications & Tools Proficient with standard and specialty finish carpentry tools and equipment OSHA 10-hour certification required; OSHA 30-hour preferred (or willingness to obtain within [90 days] of hire) Comfortable using basic scheduling and communication tools (email, text, project management or scheduling apps) to coordinate across sites Strong verbal communication skills; able to give clear direction to crews and communicate professionally with clients and design teams Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus Physical Requirements & Work Environment Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs, climb ladders and scaffolding, and work in varied outdoor and indoor jobsite conditions Extended periods of standing, kneeling, bending, and working at heights Regular travel between multiple active job sites within the region Exposure to typical construction site conditions: noise, dust, and temperature variation
Pay:
Up to $50.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
