Haynes Materials Company - 1.0 Seymour, CT Job Details Full-time $25 - $30 an hour 2 hours ago Benefits Paid training Dental insurance Paid time off On-the-job training Vision insurance Retirement plan Qualifications Safety regulations Driver's License Full Job Description Quarry Laborer Job Description The Quarry Laborer supports the safe and efficient production of crushed stone and aggregate products at the Haynes Materials quarry. This hands-on role performs general labor around crushing, screening, conveying, and stockpile areas, keeps equipment and work areas clean and clear, and assists operators and maintenance personnel. The position works outdoors in all weather and operates under MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) regulations, with safety as the first priority on every shift.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Clean spillage and buildup around crushers, screens, conveyors, tail pulleys, and transfer points using shovels, rakes, and hand tools, following lockout/tagout procedures. Assist with routine plant maintenance, including greasing, belt and idler replacement, screen changes, liner changes, and minor repairs under the direction of maintenance staff. Perform and document pre-shift workplace examinations and report hazards, defects, or unsafe conditions to the Foreman immediately. Monitor plant flow and watch for plugged chutes, belt tracking issues, and material spillage; communicate with plant operators by radio. Assist with stockpile management, product separation, and keeping haul roads, ramps, and berms clear of debris. Operate light equipment (skid steer, small loader, water truck) as trained and authorized. Assist with dust control, water management, sediment controls, and housekeeping to support environmental and permit compliance. Help load customer trucks, flag traffic, and direct vehicles safely within the yard as needed. Wear required PPE at all times and participate in daily safety talks and required MSHA training. Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman or Superintendent.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent work experience considered. Ability to read and follow safety instructions, work orders, and posted procedures. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to the quarry site. Willingness to complete MSHA Part 46 New Miner Training (provided by company) and annual refresher training. Strong work ethic, dependable attendance, and willingness to work early mornings, overtime, and Saturdays during peak season. Ability to work as part of a crew and take directions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience in a quarry, mine, aggregate plant, asphalt plant, or heavy construction environment. Current MSHA Part 46 or Part 48 training certificate a plus Experience operating a skid steer, loader, or other heavy equipment. Basic mechanical or welding/torch skills. OSHA 10 or first aid / CPR certification a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.; occasionally up to 75 lbs. with assistance. Stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, bend, kneel, crouch, and shovel for extended periods. Work at heights on catwalks and plant structures using fall protection where required. Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and snow; exposure to dust, noise, vibration, and moving equipment.
