Position Summary The Striping Machine Laborer / Roadway Pavement Marking Laborer assists with the application of temporary and permanent pavement markings on roadway construction and highway maintenance projects. This position supports pavement marking operations by assisting the machine operator, operating assigned equipment, loading and unloading materials, supporting lane closures, and setting up traffic control devices. This position requires outdoor work in active roadway environments and adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist the Machine Operator with highway pavement marking and striping operations. Apply or assist with the application of temporary and permanent roadway pavement markings. Operate various types of pavement marking equipment, as trained and assigned. Load and unload equipment, materials, tools, and supplies into and out of company trucks. Assist with lane closures and the setup, maintenance, and removal of traffic control devices. Maintain awareness of moving vehicles, roadway conditions, equipment, and nearby construction activities. Stand and walk for extended periods during daytime or nighttime work assignments. Complete daily paperwork and reports as required by the supervisor. Follow all company safety policies and applicable work zone requirements. Work assigned day shifts, night shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required. Perform other assigned duties to support project and crew needs. Desired Qualifications Three to five years of experience in pavement marking, traffic control, roadway construction, highway maintenance, or a related construction industry preferred. Advanced Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification preferred. Experience operating pavement marking, striping, or roadway construction equipment is preferred. Experience supporting lane closures and temporary traffic control activities is a plus. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work individually and cooperatively as part of a roadway construction crew. Requirements Possess a valid driver's license. Successfully complete required Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review and controlled substance testing. Background and/or criminal record checks may be required. Continue to meet company standards regarding driving record, background requirements, and controlled substance/drug testing following employment. Able to work safely around moving vehicles, high-speed roadway traffic, heavy construction equipment, fuel fumes, pavement marking materials, and active work zones. Able to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions. Available for a flexible schedule, including changing shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Able to complete required daily paperwork and communicate clearly with supervisors and crew members. Physical Requirements Qualified applicants must be capable of performing repeated physical labor throughout the workday, including: Driving for several hours per day or for extended periods, when assigned and approved. Standing and walking for extended periods of time. Walking over uneven or changing ground surfaces. Frequently lifting and carrying materials or equipment weighing at least 50 pounds. Loading and unloading pavement marking equipment and materials from company vehicles. Working from elevated platforms, ladders, or truck beds when required. Operating hand tools, power tools, and pavement marking equipment safely. Using smartphones, keyboards, and related jobsite technology. Repetitively using arms, legs, and hands to complete work assignments. Maintaining constant awareness of vehicles, equipment, coworkers, and construction activities. Employees must have adequate vision to observe moving vehicles, read highway construction and MOT signs, and understand written instructions, reports, manuals, and construction plans. Employees must also have adequate hearing to recognize approaching vehicles, respond to audible commands, and communicate effectively in person and by telephone. Work Environment and Safety This position involves outdoor work in roadway construction and maintenance environments. Employees may be exposed to high-speed traffic areas, heavy equipment, fuel fumes, construction substances, pavement marking materials, and changing weather conditions. Employees must work safely within active work zones, maintain awareness of their surroundings, follow all required safety procedures, and properly use assigned personal protective equipment.
