Job Description

LEAD LABORER

— Fiber Optic Underground (DAP / Box Laborer) Sun Utilities LLC — South Daytona, FL area $18

  • 22/hr depending on experience | Overtime 1.

5x over 40 hrs/week Full-time | Local work only — no travel, home every night

WE NEED PEOPLE NOW

WE ARE GROWING FAST

Sun Utilities is building out DAP and Box crews in the South Daytona area and we need a Lead Laborer. All work is within about an hour of South Daytona. You go home every night — no per diem jobs, no weeks away from your family. If you can dig, make a clean duct connection, and set a box right the first time, apply today.

THE ROLE

As Lead Laborer on the DAP/Box crew, you're the person who makes sure the underground work is done right. You'll work on your own and alongside our crews and subcontractors, handling the box and duct work and keeping the job moving. This is not an entry-level spot. It's the step before Machine Operator and Foreman — and we move people up fast.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Dig by hand and with equipment along roadsides, easements, and right-of-way
  • Make underground duct and conduit connections — couplings, transitions, tie-ins
  • Set and connect TOBY boxes, handholes, vaults, and flowerpots
  • Pull, blow, and place fiber; feed conduit; backfill and restore behind the work
  • Set up and maintain traffic control — cones, signs, and safe work zones
  • Work alongside our subcontractors — check that they have the required safety equipment and PPE on site
  • Measure and record subcontractor production for the day
  • Read construction prints and route maps to make sure the work matches the design
  • Run for tools, materials, water, fuel, and whatever else the job needs to keep moving
  • Keep the truck, trailer, and tools organized, accounted for, and job-ready
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Required

  • Valid Driver's License — you'll be driving for tools and materials
  • Able to work outside 8+ hours a day in Florida heat and weather
  • Able to dig and lift constantly throughout the day
  • Live within roughly an hour of South Daytona
  • Show up on time, every day, ready to work
  • Want to move up — this job goes somewhere if you want it to Big bonus if you have it
  • Experience with Hexatronic duct, boxes, or fiber systems
  • Know how to blow fiber — this may be part of the job
  • Can read construction maps and prints
  • Prior work in fiber, cable, telecom, other utilities, potholing, landscaping, bore missiles, excavation, or general construction None of the bonus items are required.

If you can dig, show up, and learn, we'll teach you the rest.

SCHEDULE
  • Work days between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, with 60 minutes of breaks — one long break or several short ones, your call. Total 40 hrs per week.
  • Typically 4-5 days a week depending on the project. Total 40 hrs per week.
  • Overtime pays 1.5x for every hour over 40 in a week
  • All work local — within about an hour of South Daytona
MEET THE CREW AND THE FOREMAN FIRST

Before you start, we want you to come out to a job, sit down with the foreman or superintendent for a short interview, and stay a while to see exactly what we do. No surprises on day one — for you or for us.
