LABORER I PRIMARY FUNCTION

Works with close supervision on any phase of a construction project. Performs unskilled manual labor as directed. (Level C)

TYPICAL DUTIES

1. Performs any combination of following duties with direction on construction or asphalt projects, usually working in utility capacity, by transferring from one task to another according to the demands of the job. 2. May be required to measure distances from grade stakes, drives stakes, and stretches tight line. Clean the site and move materials. Bolts, nails, aligns, and blocks up under forms. Levels earth to fine grade specifications, using pick and shovel. Mixes concrete, using portable mixer. Smooths and finishes freshly poured cement or concrete, using float, trowel, or screed. Positions, joins, aligns, and seals pipe sections. Erects scaffolding, shoring, and braces. Sprays materials such as water, sand, steam, vinyl, paint, to clean, coat, or seal surfaces. Applies caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal crevices. Grinds, sands, or polishes surfaces, such as concrete, using abrasive tools or machines. 3. Performs variety of tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools, such as demolishing buildings, sawing lumber, dismantling forms, and removing projections from concrete or directing traffic. 4. Involves physical labor that may include using shovel, quickie saw, sledgehammer, picks and all kinds of hand tools. 5. May assist in shoveling concrete or asphalt and may be required to screed concrete. 6. May be called to assist in moving pipe, laying pipe, shoveling rock or other aspects of laying pipe. 7. Will be required to work on dirt and stone placement by pulling tape, moving rock or roots and cleaning around grade stakes or cleaning curb. 8. May occasionally be required to move equipment. 9. Must work as part of a team and be a good team player. 10. Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE

No prior experience required/no minimum educational level required. Periodic random drug tests are required. Direct deposit of pay and two types of identification are required. Must have work boots and transportation. Periodic random drug tests are required. Should have a driver's license. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bending, stooping and crawling, climbing and lifting items weighing up to 100+ pounds, average hearing and sight, extensive range of motion a must. Must be able to work overtime especially during peak season.
