Job Description

The Maintenance Laborer may work at a variety of tasks such as part of a trash truck crew cleaning parks, or as a member of a trim crew mowing parks, establishing and maintaining flower beds and landscaped areas, assisting in the pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs; general maintenance and repair of park facilities such as picnic grounds, playgrounds, trails, etc.; janitorial servicing of facilities; cleaning restrooms; preparing ball fields; maintaining swimming pools; working with trades crews in the construction and repair of facilities; maintaining golf courses, tees and greens; assisting mechanics in the maintenance, repair and servicing of equipment; and related duties as required. No formal education required. Must read & write to receive work instructions. Digging with shovels, lifting and carrying sacks of fertilizer. Operating line trimmers, edger, "swing blades" frequently on uneven terrain, operating small riding mowers. Loading and unloading trucks and trailers of equipment and supplies. Paint preparation and minor painting. Emptying fifty-five gallon trash barrels. Picking up litter, brush and limbs. Shoveling sand, soil, gravel and similar materials. Cutting vegetation along ditches, lakes and canals. Driving stakes, operating tillers. Reporting and removing hazards. Handling pesticides, swimming pool chemicals, various cleaning agents, and related grounds maintenance and janitorial chemicals. Raking, leveling, smoothing ball fields. Lifting and carrying 80 lb. sacks of concrete, pressure washing building and facilities. As scheduled, generally 40 hours per week; meal break as needed.
