Job Description

North Atlantic Ship Repair Laborer/Mechanic Boston, MA Apply Salary Range:
Job Summary The Laborer performs preventive maintenance and repairs on shipyard equipment and supports daily operations to ensure equipment reliability and workplace safety. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance and repair of shipyard equipment. Ensure all work meets required specifications and quality standards. Prepare and maintain safe and organized job sites. Follow and explain lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures in accordance with safety regulations. Interpret specifications, blueprints, and maintenance requests as needed. Complete repairs to help reduce maintenance backlog. Assist and provide direction to lower-level mechanics when required. Operate vehicles and equipment including fuel trucks, forklifts, and service vehicles. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities None Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Required qualifications include:
Demonstrated ability to identify and properly use basic hand tools. Understanding of both standard and metric measurement systems, including ability to perform basic conversions without a calculator. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands and arms. Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, including on board vessels. Ability to work in confined spaces such as tanks and small compartments. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to use both hands for climbing, handling tools, and operating machinery. Ability to respond to verbal and visual instructions. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job: Exposure to wet and humid conditions. Work near moving mechanical parts and in elevated or precarious locations. Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and potentially hazardous chemicals. Work in extreme temperatures (hot and cold). Risk of electrical shock and vibration. Frequent work in confined spaces. High noise levels requiring hearing protection. Safety Requirements Must comply with all company safety policies and procedures. Must adhere to all applicable OSHA regulations and standards.
