Construction Laborer Summary At Rusk, we pride ourselves on using the safest building practices by the highest standard of workmanship in high-end construction. Our team builds exquisite apartments and townhouses in Manhattan. We seek hardworking, driven, and reliable individuals with at least three years of construction experience to join our company to carry out the work needed to build these projects. Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Load, unload, store, and relocate building materials, equipment, and tools, and move/organize them throughout jobsite.
- Bring deliveries into the building safely and remove debris safely without damaging the building hallways, doorways, etc.
- Carefully remove jobsite construction debris.
- Perform cleaning tasks including but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming floors, wiping down surfaces.
- Perform select demolition of assemblies and salvage useful materials as directed.
- Hand-mix cement and other materials and spread concrete.
- Safely operate and maintain a variety of tools as needed, including but not limited to; saws, drills, chipping hammers, coring drills, grinders, and fein tools.
- Install protective materials to safeguard common corridor walls and floors and finished spaces on the job site
- Replace air filters in negative air machines and other air-moving equipment.
- Create and maintain excellent relationships with co-workers, the building's personnel including their superintendent, porters, elevator operators, etc. and clients.
- Follow and carry out Rusk Superintendent's specific daily instructions, follow protocols and checklists.
- Review and validate delivery paperwork, accept, and bring deliveries onto the site.
- At times will work in outdoor weather conditions and unconditioned spaces. This job description is subject to update at any time. Other duties may need to be performed as necessary or required on a particular job site, consistent with typical duties of laborers. Skills Required
- Ability to constantly move, position, balance, or install items up to 100 pounds, with or without assistance for distances up to 400 feet, including up and down stairs (deliveries and debris removal).
- Ability to frequently ascend/descend a ladder or scaffolding to move/balance materials, install temporary protection, or gain access to areas of a project.
- Ability to constantly move, position, or install items including but not limited to: sheetrock, plywood, tools, lumber, corner bead etc. briskly and carefully.
- Ability to constantly position self to install and maintain temporary protection on floors, walls, around cabinetry, and in tight spaces.
- Ability to be able to detect unsafe construction situations from long distances.
- Knowledge of and competence using appropriate materials to protect finishes, furniture, and other items and surfaces on job site.
- Knowledge, competence, and safe use of appropriate cleaning materials, tools, equipment, and building practices.
- Effective communication and coordination with crew members, Rusk management, suppliers, and equipment representatives. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow instructions carefully, efficiently, safely, and competently.
- Ability to visually check deliveries of materials, tools, and equipment to confirm specifications as ordered.
- Ability to anticipate and meet needs of construction crew and job superintendent.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and jobsite safety requirements.
- Basic mathematic skills
Tools or Equipment Required:
- Hammer, measuring tape, utility knife, work boots
Education and Relevant Work Experience Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalency diploma preferred
- Experience in construction or maintenance
Certifications Required:
- OSHA 30 Rusk Inc.
