The Public Works Laborer is a full-time hourly employee who performs skilled and manual work in completion of the duties of the Public Works Department, including operation and maintenance of roadways, traffic signals, street/regulatory signs, pavement markings, storm and sanitary sewer collection and conveyance systems, parks, swimming pool, and recreation facilities, woody waste compost facility, including the curbside collection of leaf waste, and Borough-wide facility and fleet maintenance. This employee is required to drive trucks having a gross vehicle weight of 26,000 pounds or more and is required to have a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an Air Brakes and Tanker Endorsement. Responsibilities Patch pavement surfaces by removing broken or unsuitable material from holes, trimming edges, filling holes with hot mix asphalt, and leveling material surface using rollers and pneumatic tampers. Drive truck or equipment with adjustable attachments to remove snow and ice from paved surfaces and apply anti-skid materials. Dig drainage ditches, fill in washouts, and clean out culverts, catch basins and other stormwater system structures. Cut grass along roadsides and in parks using hand tools, trimmers, and mowers. Assist in the patching, paving, and resurfacing of streets, including vertical adjustment of manhole frames and inlet tops using jackhammers, rollers, pneumatic tampers. Build and position forms for pouring concrete, and dismantle forms using saws, hammers, and pry bars. Smooth and finish freshly poured cement or concrete. Work on ladders and pneumatic lifts at heights of up to 30 feet to change light bulbs, cut limbs, or maintain building and pavilion roofs. Work in trenches, with depths of 10 feet or more. Clean, lubricate and service machinery, equipment, vehicles, and tools. Mix and apply chemicals along roadsides and in parks. Conduct visual inspections of public and private storm and sanitary sewer lines; engage in sanitary sewer inspection functions that include physical checks of manholes, pump stations, meters, outfalls, and related facilities. Operate and maintain pumps, blowers, generators, sewer flushing equipment, and jackhammers. Perform flushing and root cutting operations in sanitary sewer. Work as a flagger, set barricades, assist co-workers in work zone traffic control. Operate a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera, following specialized training. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. High School diploma or equivalent required. Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an Air Brakes and Tanker Endorsement required or able to obtain within twelve months. Experience in pesticide spraying or CCTV underground line televising a plus.
