About the Role We are looking for a dependable and hardworking Construction Laborer to join our underground fiber optic construction crew. This role supports fiber installation operations including trenching, boring, and cable placement on active job sites. Some travel is required as projects move across service areas — per diem and lodging are provided for out-of-town assignments. Responsibilities Assist with underground fiber optic construction, including open trenching, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), micro-trenching, and direct bury operations Load, unload, and transport conduit, fiber reels, tools, and equipment to and from job sites Dig, backfill, and compact trenches by hand and with power equipment Assist with fiber placement (blowing or pulling) and conduit installation Locate and pothole existing utilities to confirm depth and avoid utility strikes Set up and maintain traffic control, signage, and work-zone safety measures Operate hand tools and light power equipment (shovels, tampers, saws, etc.) Assist skilled operators and technicians with equipment staging and material handling Restore work sites to original condition, including backfill, seeding, and surface repair Follow all safety protocols, including proper PPE use and utility locate procedures (call-before-you-dig) Travel to job sites outside the local area as needed, sometimes for extended periods Requirements Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 lbs, digging, kneeling, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions Willingness and ability to travel to out-of-town job sites as needed Valid driver's license preferred CDL license a plus — additional hourly rate paid for CDL holders Must pass a pre-employment drug test Must complete I-9 employment eligibility verification Ability to work safely as part of a crew and follow direction from supervisors Prior underground utility, fiber optic, or construction experience a plus, but not required — willingness to learn is key Compensation & Benefits Starting pay: $25.00/hour Additional hourly premium for employees with a valid CDL Per diem and lodging provided for out-of-town travel assignments [Add other benefits here — health insurance, PTO, retirement, etc.] Work Environment This position involves outdoor work at active underground construction sites, exposure to noise, dust, and varying weather conditions, and proximity to heavy equipment, trenching operations, and traffic control zones.
