Job Description
Job Overview We are currently seeking a dependable and experienced Topman to join our sewer and water crew. The Topman plays a critical role in supporting excavation and utility installation work from above ground, ensuring the safety and efficiency of trench operations. This position involves working closely with operators, pipelayers, and laborers to keep projects running smoothly and on schedule. Responsibilities Assist in the safe and efficient installation of sewer, water, and storm drain systems. Act as a key communication point between the crew inside the trench and equipment operators above ground. Handle materials and tools, and ensure timely delivery to workers in the trench. Maintain a clean and organized work site, including setup and takedown of safety barriers. Monitor trench safety and depth, ensuring compliance with OSHA standards and company safety procedures. Operate small tools and assist with layout and measurements as needed. Support the foreman and pipelayers with day-to-day tasks and instructions. Perform general labor duties when required. Requirements Understanding of trench safety and excavation best practices. Ability to lift heavy materials (50+ lbs) and work in physically demanding outdoor environments. Reliable transportation and punctual attendance. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Must be able to follow directions and safety protocols at all times. Valid driver's license. Preferred Qualifications Experience working around heavy equipment and in active construction zones. CDL or other relevant certifications a plus. Previous work as a Topman or similar role in utility construction.
