Job Summary The Town of Princeton (NC) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Public Works Superintendent to lead and manage the town's public works operations. This vital role involves overseeing infrastructure projects, maintenance, and construction activities to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality public services. The ideal candidate will possess strong construction management skills, team leadership abilities, and a comprehensive understanding of construction safety regulations and project scheduling. As a key leader, you will coordinate with contractors, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with federal and local construction standards to deliver sustainable community improvements. Duties Lead and supervise all public works construction projects, including roads, utilities, drainage systems, and other infrastructure initiatives. Develop, review, and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and construction plans to ensure project accuracy and compliance. Manage project schedules using Primavera P6 or similar construction management software to coordinate timelines effectively. Oversee bidding processes, contracts, and procurement activities utilizing ProCore, Prolog, HeavyBid or comparable tools to ensure transparency and value. Enforce OSHA standards and federal construction safety regulations across all job sites to maintain a safe working environment for crews. Supervise crew management activities including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and ensuring adherence to construction safety management practices. Monitor project budgets, control costs, and prepare reports on project progress while maintaining quality control standards throughout all phases of construction. Review construction drawings for accuracy; interpret technical specifications; oversee construction schedule coordination; and ensure projects meet quality benchmarks. Conduct regular site inspections using tools such as ohmmeters for electrical work verification; oversee pipeline installation; and supervise heavy equipment operation. Foster effective communication among team members, contractors, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to facilitate smooth project execution. Experience Proven management experience in heavy civil or commercial construction projects with a focus on public infrastructure. Extensive background in construction site supervision with strong skills in blueprint reading and interpreting technical drawings. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously using Primavera P6 or Primavera P3 scheduling software. Familiarity with construction safety regulations including OSHA standards; experience implementing safety protocols on-site. Strong knowledge of contracts administration, procurement procedures, and bid management using tools like ProCore or Prolog. Prior experience supervising diverse teams in a construction management role with excellent managerial communication skills. Hands-on experience with construction drawing review, project scheduling coordination, quality control practices, and budget oversight. Knowledge of federal regulations related to public works projects; ability to manage crews effectively while maintaining high safety standards.
