Position Purpose:

The VOLLERS Construction Superintendent provides the field leadership necessary to plan, organize, direct, coordinate and control daily jobsite activities. The position is responsible for executing the work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with the project plans, specifications, schedule, budget, quality standards, and contractual requirements. Working in partnership with Project Management and other members of the operations team, the Superintendent leads field personnel and subcontractors, coordinates resources, resolves operational issues, and maintains productive relationships with clients to support successful project completion.

Responsibilities:

Safety Leadership Ensures that proper safety planning is included in all pre-job planning and considered foremost in the daily operations by creating and maintaining a culture in which every employee and subcontractor is expected to work safely and is held accountable for safe behavior. Conduct required safety meetings, pre-task planning, and job hazard analysis. Ensure employees and subcontractors use required PPE and comply with OSHA requirements, site-specific requirements, and company safety policies. Promptly identify, address, document and communicate unsafe conditions, incidents, near misses, and corrective action in coordination with the Safety Committee. Project Planning & Execution Supervise a project on your own and effectively communicate with the client, project teams, and other internal stakeholders. Demonstrate the ability to move between projects and manage multiple crews if required. Create daily and three-week schedules in accordance with the overall project schedule and communicate expectations to appropriate personnel. Maintain the appropriate amount of labor to streamline project completion in the most efficient manner possible. Plan equipment needs, order materials, and other jobsite resources to support efficient and timely execution. Identify productivity or operational issues and take corrective action to minimize schedule delays and cost impacts. Ensure tasks are performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, submittals, permits, contract requirements, and quality standards. Willingness to participate as a working member of a crew if necessary. Cost & Productivity Management Monitor daily production, labor, equipment utilization, quantities, and job costs against the project estimate, budget, and schedule. Review daily and weekly cost and productivity reports with the Senior Superintendent, Project Manager, or Project Executive to identify areas requiring attention. Develop and implement corrective measures when production or costs do not meet expectations. Properly code labor, materials, trucking, and other costs to support accurate reporting. Protect company resources by promoting the efficient use, care, and security of labor, equipment, tools, and materials. Project Coordination & Communication Represent the company professionally in project meetings, owner or contractor meetings, and internal strategy sessions. Maintain and build effective working relationships with clients, owners, inspectors, subcontractors, vendors, field personnel, and other project stakeholders. Responsible for all project survey layout and complete as-built plan data in collaboration with the appropriate survey and project personnel. Manage the field aspects of all subcontractors, including safety, schedule, quality, productivity, and compliance. Coordinate required inspections, testing, permits, and documentation with the project team and appropriate outside parties. Documentation and Change Management Perform all project information reporting as required, including but not limited to daily reporting, production reports, daily crew schedule, and three-week look ahead schedules, safety documentation, material and trucking tickets, As-built information, photographs, and other supporting documents. Identify and manage T&M and Change Order work. Support punch list completion, demobilization, turnover and closeout activities. Construction Technology & Systems Understand and implement GPS and machine control systems as applicable. Effectively learn and use company's project management, field reporting, timecard, scheduling, document management, and other systems as needed. Leadership & Workforce Development Lead foreman and crews by establishing clear expectations, communicating priorities, monitoring performance, and holding team members accountable. Assist in the development of foremen, laborers, operators and other field employees through coaching, feedback, and cross-training. Identify high-potential employees and communicate with company leadership. Address performance issues in coordination with HR when additional action is needed. Continue developing personal leadership capabilities.

Knowledge & Skills:

Seven years of relevant heavy civil construction experience, including at least five years as a Foreman. Thorough knowledge of heavy civil construction methods including sitework, utilities, grading, excavation, or other relevant scopes. Ability to read and understand all civil, structural, and architectural plans, specifications, contractual requirements as well as knowledge of the materials, equipment, and tools necessary to complete the work. Proficient in PC software and systems such as Microsoft Office; PDF, Emailing, Using Spread Sheets, Online Plan & Document Storage, Microsoft Project (or other scheduling platforms). Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong leadership, organizational, planning, problem solving, and time management skills.

AED and Basic First Aid Additional Requirements:

Ability to work at active construction sites in varied weather and environmental conditions. Valid driver's license Ability to work extended hours, weekends, or other schedules when required.
