The Superintendent will be responsible for day-to-day field leadership, ensuring safety, quality, schedule and compliance with healthcare and federal requirements. This role requires strong technical knowledge of healthcare systems, OSHPD and VA standards, and proven ability to manage subcontractors, inspections and closeout activities on sensitive, high-acuity sites. Key Responsibilities Provide on-site leadership and supervision for healthcare construction projects including ground-up, tenant improvement and VA hospital work. Ensure full compliance with OSHPD, VA, federal, state and local codes and regulations throughout construction. Develop, manage and drive the construction schedule to meet milestones and critical completion dates; coordinate with project management and trade partners to mitigate delays. Oversee quality control and inspection processes; ensure installation of medical gas, MEP, life-safety systems and other healthcare-specific work meets specified standards. Implement and enforce strict safety programs and infection control procedures appropriate to healthcare environments; conduct regular safety meetings and site audits. Coordinate daily with subcontractors, trades, inspectors, hospital facilities staff and owner representatives to maintain clear communication and efficient workflow.

Manage documentation:
daily reports, RFIs, submittals, as-built records, safety logs, and inspection documentation required for regulatory approvals and project closeout. Lead commissioning support and turnover activities, including punch-list resolution, systems testing, training of facility staff and preparation of closeout packages. Mentor and direct field personnel, including assistant superintendents, foremen and craft labor; maintain high productivity and morale. Prepare for and support VA-specific security and background clearance processes as required for access to federal healthcare facilities. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of hands-on construction superintendent experience, with at least 3 years in healthcare construction (VA hospitals, acute care, ASC, or similar facilities). Demonstrated experience with OSHPD-regulated projects and navigating OSHPD plan reviews, inspections and approvals. Direct experience managing VA hospital or other federal healthcare projects, including familiarity with federal contracting requirements and security/clearance protocols. Proven track record overseeing ground-up construction and tenant improvement (TI) projects in operational healthcare settings. Strong knowledge of MEP systems, medical gas, infection control risk assessments (ICRA), life-safety and NFPA healthcare requirements. Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, site safety programs, and proven ability to enforce safety and infection control standards. Excellent scheduling and coordination skills; experience with CPM scheduling tools (Primavera P6, MS Project) and managing trade sequencing to meet milestones. Proficient in construction documentation and electronic reporting (daily logs, RFIs, submittals, BIM/CAD coordination preferred). Strong leadership and communication skills; ability to collaborate with owners, A/E teams, inspectors and facility staff. Valid drivers license and ability to pass federal background checks/clearances required for work in VA facilities. Certifications such as OSHA 30, Certified Construction Superintendent or equivalent are a plus.
