ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
Barton Malow Builders is seeking a Field Superintendent to lead General Trades self-perform operations on the a major project in Charleston, South Carolina. This is a full-time position with long-term career potential across Barton Malow's growing Southeast region and national portfolio. The right candidate will own the field driving safety, quality, schedule, and coordination across a broad scope of interior and specialty work. This role reports to the Project Manager and interfaces daily with the CM team, trade partners, and Barton Malow project leadership. It is a field supervisor position responsible for managing people, subcontractors, scope, and schedule.
PROJECT SCOPE
The Field Superintendent will manage all self-perform activities, including: General Requirements, project general conditions, general carpentry, expansion joints, specialties, and other finish work.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Supervision and Coordination Manage and coordinate all Barton Malow craft labor and subcontractors on site. Maintain daily field schedules and coordinate sequencing of work with the project team, and other trade partners. Attend weekly and bi-weekly team meetings. Represent Barton Malow professionally and arrive prepared with accurate field status. Identify and communicate schedule conflicts, and access constraints to the Project Manager immediately upon discovery. Management of site logistics related to assigned scope of work. Safety Champion a zero-incident safety culture on site. Barton Malow safety standards are non-negotiable. Conduct daily site walks to identify and correct unsafe conditions before work begins. Lead or participate in daily pre-task planning (PTP) and job hazard analysis (JHA) with the crew. Maintain compliance with OSHA standards and all project-specific safety requirements. Report all incidents, near-misses, and safety observations to the Project Manager and Safety team immediately. Quality Review and understand contract documents, shop drawings, and submittals for all assigned scope. Work cannot install ahead of approved submittals. Verify that materials delivered to the site match approved submittals before installation begins. Conduct in-process quality checks at each floor and scope milestone. Document and correct deficiencies before proceeding. Documentation and Reporting Maintain accurate daily field reports covering manpower, work completed, open issues, and weather conditions. Document and photograph work in place, especially for concealed conditions and special inspection items. Track and report material deliveries, quantities installed per floor, and projected completion dates by scope item. Communicate actively with the Project Manager on submittal log status, procurement milestones, and lead time risks. Labor Management Manage labor crews on a daily basis. Participate in labor plan development and workforce planning as project scope ramps up. Escalate labor performance issues to the Project Manager promptly.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated ability to supervise, direct, and develop craft workers and field crews in a construction environment. Working knowledge of Interiors/General Trades construction scope: interior specialties, Division 10, rough carpentry, and associated work. Ability to read, interpret, and execute work from construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings. Strong oral and written communication skills. Comfortable representing Barton Malow in team meetings and owner interactions. Organized and self-directed. Capable of managing multiple scope items and floors simultaneously. Proficiency in daily reporting tools, plan review software (Bluebeam), and Microsoft Office. Autodesk experience a plus. Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred. Healthcare construction experience preferred. Infection control, ICRA, and ILSM protocols apply on this project. OSHA 30-hour certification required or must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
