Project Manager - Mechanical Construction Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and deliver complex mechanical projects from preconstruction through closeout. The ideal candidate will oversee HVAC, plumbing, piping and sheet metal scopes, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget and in full compliance with contract documents and applicable codes. This role requires strong financial ownership, construction management experience in commercial and healthcare environments, and proficiency with RFI/submittal workflows, change management and VDC/BIM coordination. Key Responsibilities Lead all phases of mechanical construction projects, including preconstruction buyout, procurement, scheduling, execution and closeout.
Manage project financial performance:
develop budgets, prepare forecasts, monitor job cost, maintain Schedule of Values and pursue corrective actions to meet targets. Coordinate and manage subcontractors and trade partners for HVAC, plumbing, piping and sheet metal scopes; verify work meets specifications and quality standards. Prepare, review and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders and contract modifications; maintain timely communications with stakeholders to minimize risk and delays. Develop and maintain detailed schedules using MS Project/Primavera; coordinate sequencing, site logistics and commissioning activities with clients and multi-discipline teams. Oversee procurement and buyout activities, including vendor selection, purchase orders and long-lead item tracking to ensure timely delivery. Perform constructability reviews and coordinate with Mechanical Engineering, VDC/BIM and design teams to resolve clashes, clarify drawings and update models and drawings as needed. Use VDC/BIM workflows and tools (Revit coordination) together with Bluebeam markups to drive efficient field execution and clash resolution. Administer construction contracts and ensure compliance with specifications, drawings and regulatory requirements; lead negotiations with owners, architects and subcontractors as required. Drive safety, quality assurance and regulatory compliance on-site; enforce company safety programs and support incident investigations. Prepare and deliver regular project reports, forecasts and executive summaries to senior leadership and clients. Mentor and develop project team members, including assistant project managers, superintendents and field staff to build capability and succession. Manage client relationships and act as primary point of contact during construction, ensuring responsiveness and high client satisfaction. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or related field; equivalent experience will be considered. 8+ years of progressive mechanical construction experience with a minimum of 5 years as a Project Manager overseeing HVAC, plumbing, piping and sheet metal work. Proven experience managing projects in commercial and healthcare/hospital environments preferred, with familiarity of hospital construction protocols and infection control risk assessments.
Strong financial acumen:
experience with budgeting, forecasting, Schedule of Values, cost control and delivering projects within margin targets. Demonstrated competency with RFI, submittal, change order and procurement workflows. Hands-on experience with VDC/BIM coordination, Revit, Bluebeam and clash resolution processes. Proficient with construction management platforms such as Procore and with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); familiarity with scheduling tools (MS Project or Primavera). Solid knowledge of mechanical systems design, specifications, shop drawings and construction means/methods. Excellent negotiation, communication and client-facing skills with the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams and manage stakeholders. Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards and permitting processes for mechanical systems. Certifications such as PMP, CCM, NICET, LEED or OSHA 30 are a plus. Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
