Job Description

Position Overview:
The Design Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing the design aspects of construction projects from inception through completion. This role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and creative problem-solving abilities to ensure projects are executed efficiently, within budget, and according to client specifications. The successful candidate will work closely with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to drive success.
Key Responsibilities:
    Design Oversight:
    Lead and manage the design process for various construction projects, ensuring design solutions meet client specifications, regulatory standards, budget constraints, and schedule.
      Team Leadership:
      Supervise and coordinate a team of engineers and designers, providing guidance, mentorship, and ensuring clear communication among all parties involved.
        Collaboration:
        Work closely with clients, architects, contractors, and other construction professionals to ensure design feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with industry standards.
          Project Management:
          Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of design tasks, ensuring timely delivery of design documents, drawings, and specifications.
            Quality Control:
            Review and approve all design-related documentation, ensuring accuracy, quality, and adherence to project goals and safety standards.
              Risk Management:
              Identify potential design and engineering risks early in the project lifecycle and develop mitigation strategies to address these risks effectively.
                Client Interaction:
                Maintain strong relationships with clients, provide regular updates on design progress, and address any concerns or changes to project scope.
                  Budget & Resource Management:
                  Work within project budgets, ensuring design solutions are cost-effective and resource allocation is efficient.
                    Sustainability & Innovation:
                    Promote the use of sustainable design practices and innovative construction technologies to enhance the environmental and economic performance of projects.
                      Compliance & Standards:
                      Ensure all designs comply with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
                        Proposal Preparation:
                        Assist the business development team in preparing responses to Request for Proposals including review of technical documents, preparing scope of work documents to include in Invitations to Bid, assisting with estimating, and technical writing
                          Design:
                          Perform design research, analysis, and calculations and prepare applicable design documentation related to respective field(s) of study
                            Continuing Education:
                            Active participation in training and education as required to maintain proficiency in related field(s) of study
                            Minimum Qualifications:
                            • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, construction science, or similar
                            • Four (4) years' experience in design consulting
                            • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
                            • US work authorization
                            • Reliable personal transportation
                            • Ability to pass background checks and drug screening
                            • In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and engineering principles
                            • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat and/or Bluebeam
                            • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
                            • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking
                            • Exceptional work ethic, integrity, and desire to learn
                            • Capable of working independently
                            • Ability to travel periodically (typically no more than one-night stay, longer term on a negotiated basis) Preferred Skills and Traits
                            • Professional engineering license (PE) or registered architecture (RA) license
                            • Proven track record of managing design/construction teams
                            • Proficiency with REVIT/AutoCad
                            • Solid understanding of construction contracts, budgeting, and project management software
                            • Previous Department of Defense contract experience
