Job Description

Project Manager - Civil Construction (Grading, Excavation, Roads)Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead civil construction projects focusing on grading, excavation, roads, and underground utilities. The successful candidate will oversee project delivery from pre-construction through handover, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget and to quality standards. This role requires strong technical knowledge of civil works, proven project management capabilities, and excellent stakeholder and subcontractor management skills.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage civil construction projects including grading, excavation, roadworks and underground utility installation from pre-construction to handover.

Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets and resource plans; monitor progress and implement corrective actions to meet milestones.

Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, suppliers and on-site personnel to ensure work is carried out to specification and schedule.

Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations; implement site safety plans and conduct regular inspections.

Review and manage project documentation including drawings, specifications, change orders, permits and daily reports.

Collaborate with engineers, surveyors and designers to resolve technical issues and ensure constructability.

Prepare and present progress reports, cost forecasts and risk assessments to senior management and clients.

Manage procurement activities including quotations, contracts and materials logistics to support timely delivery.

Conduct quality assurance and quality control checks to ensure workmanship meets project and regulatory standards.

Identify, assess and mitigate project risks; manage claims and variations in a timely manner.

Coordinate commissioning, testing and final inspections, and manage project close-out and handover documentation.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline preferred; equivalent experience considered.

Minimum 5+ years experience managing civil construction projects with demonstrable experience in grading, excavation and road construction.

Practical experience with underground utilities (sewer, stormwater, water, conduit) and site earthworks.

Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules and large subcontractor teams.

Familiarity with construction management software (MS Project, Primavera or similar) and civil design tools (Civil 3D preferred).Strong knowledge of health, safety and environmental regulations and a track record of enforcing safe work practices.

Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.

Professional certifications such as PMP, CPC or equivalent are advantageous.

Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to project sites; ability to work in field conditions as required.

Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
