Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a Plan Check Engineer for a contract opportunity in San Bernardino, CA supporting public sector building and development services. This role is ideal for a civil or structural engineering professional who enjoys technical plan review, code interpretation, and collaborating with design professionals, inspectors, plans examiners, and the public. The Plan Check Engineer will review residential, commercial, industrial, and multifamily building plans for compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards. This assignment offers the opportunity to contribute to community development, public safety, and efficient permit processing in a structured, professional office environment. Candidates can expect a collaborative team setting, supportive technical leadership, and meaningful work that directly supports safe and compliant construction. Key Responsibilities Review building plans, structural calculations, and supporting documents for compliance with applicable building, residential, accessibility, energy, green building, and local codes. Evaluate complex structural systems, alternative designs, and engineering documentation for code compliance and constructability. Provide technical guidance to plans examiners, inspectors, design professionals, applicants, and members of the public. Coordinate plan review activities with internal departments to support timely permit issuance and project approvals. Research and resolve code interpretation issues related to structural design, building safety, and regulatory compliance. Support code enforcement and permitting activities through accurate documentation, clear communication, and professional customer service.
