Job Description

Job Description The Construction Inspector III is responsible for providing field and office-based inspection services for public works construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, engineering standards, specifications, and contract requirements. This role supports the construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of roadway, drainage, utility, and infrastructure projects through inspections, documentation, testing coordination, and contractor oversight.

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in site construction and public works projects and can work independently while exercising sound judgment in interpreting plans, specifications, and construction standards.

Perform field inspections of public works construction projects to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, permits, and applicable codes.

Monitor contractor activities involving roadways, drainage systems, earthwork, paving, utilities, and related infrastructure improvements.

Inspect construction materials, workmanship, and installation methods to ensure quality and compliance with project requirements.

Coordinate and review testing activities, including asphalt, concrete, soils, and other construction materials.

Maintain detailed inspection reports, daily logs, photographs, measurements, and project documentation.

Identify deficiencies, document findings, and communicate corrective actions to contractors and project stakeholders.

Review construction schedules, shop drawings, material certifications, and testing reports as needed.

Participate in project meetings and provide updates regarding construction progress, quality issues, and compliance concerns.

Assist project managers, engineers, and design professionals by providing field observations and technical recommendations.

Ensure all work is performed in accordance with FDOT standards, City standards, safety requirements, and contract documents. Skills and Requirements Associate's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field.

Four (4) years of experience in site construction, public works construction, construction inspection, or construction management.

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.

ACI Level I (Field Testing Technician) certification, or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.

FDOT Asphalt Paving Technician Level I certification.

FDOT Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I certification.
