GENERAL SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the County Judge/Executive, performs all necessary functions to ensure proper enforcement of the Kentucky Building Code. Performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for implementation and enforcement of the Kentucky Building Code.
• Responsible for identifying unsafe structures and taking appropriate action consistent with state and local laws. Leveling fines as appropriate for violations
• Performs work necessary for issuance or revocation of needed permits. Reviews construction documents, issue compliance letters and certificates of occupancy.
• Performs necessary inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with ordinances and permits. Develops and maintains necessary records for all activities and responsibilities.
• Works as appropriate with the County Attorney to pursue necessary legal action. Performs other related duties as required.
• Communicates and explains code requirements to homeowners and contractors
• Consults the Danville/Boyle County Planning and Zoning commission regarding regulations.
• As the flood plain coordinator assists landowner in navigating proper procedures to ensure compliance.

Graduate from an accredited high school or equivalent (GED), supplemented by at least three (3) years of experience in a related construction position, requiring the ability to effectively read and interpret building plans or specifications; While not a requirement, an Associates or Bachelors degree in a design or construction related field is preferred.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Certification as Kentucky Building Inspector. Will earn a Building Inspector Level 1 certification upon hiring. Will maintain 12 hours p/yr of continuing education to maintain building Inspector certification. Valid driver's license. Maintains a current contractor license. Knowledge and experience working with related building code systems and software Working knowledge and familiarity with flood plain maps Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of the Kentucky Building Code and related laws and ordinances. Sufficient knowledge of construction practices to allow for proper identification of violations of building codes. Ability to accurately read and interpret plans, blueprints, specifications, and other pertinent data for comparison with construction in progress. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county officials, other employees, contractors, architects, and the general public. Ability to utilize computer and necessary software for the development of citations, documents and communications. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Physical agility to allow for proper inspection of structures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to enter small spaces, crawl spaces, etc for inspection of construction. Exposed to heat and cold and elements of weather while in the field.

Pay:

$21.66 - $31.66 per hour
