In person Position Overview RJA Engineering is seeking a detail-oriented Construction Inspector / Engineering Technician to join our Owensboro, Kentucky office. This position will primarily support construction projects in the Owensboro and Hawesville areas . This position is ideal for someone with experience in construction inspection, quality control/quality assurance (QA/QC), field testing, construction observation, materials testing, or other engineering-related field work. The Construction Inspector / Engineering Technician will work primarily in the field observing construction operations and verifying that work is completed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and applicable requirements. Responsibilities may include construction inspection, field testing, documentation, and quality control activities associated with civil, structural, and architectural construction. This is a hands-on field position requiring strong attention to detail, good organizational skills, dependability, and the ability to work independently in an active construction-site environment. Key Responsibilities Perform field construction inspections and observe construction activities to verify compliance with project plans and specifications. Perform or assist with soil compaction testing, concrete testing, and other construction materials testing . Observe and document concrete placement operations. Inspect reinforcing steel placement and other structural components. Inspect wood framing and other construction activities as assigned. Observe construction operations and identify potential deficiencies, conflicts, or deviations from plans and specifications. Review and interpret civil, structural, and architectural plans and specifications. Maintain accurate daily reports, testing records, photographs, and other field documentation. Communicate field observations and project-related information to engineers, project managers, contractors, and other appropriate project personnel. Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) activities related to construction projects. Travel to project sites throughout the Owensboro, Hawesville, and surrounding Western Kentucky area using a company-provided fleet vehicle. Perform other construction inspection and engineering technician duties as needed. Required Qualifications & Abilities Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in weather conditions typical of Western Kentucky. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and remain self-directed with minimal supervision. Dependable and able to consistently report to scheduled project assignments on time. Reliable transportation to and from the Owensboro office or designated work location. Current valid driver's license. Ability to work a typical Monday-Friday schedule, generally 6:00 AM-4:00 PM . Ability and willingness to report earlier when construction activities require it, including early-morning concrete pours and other time-sensitive field operations . Willingness to work occasional extended hours or weekends based on project needs. Computer literacy and ability to use programs within the Microsoft Office Suite . Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check. Preferred Qualifications The following experience, certifications, and skills are preferred but are not required : At least 1 year of construction inspection, construction testing, or related field experience or 3+ years of earthwork and/or concrete construction experience. Experience with construction observation, QA/QC, field inspection, or materials testing. Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, and architectural plans and specifications. Experience performing soil compaction testing. Experience performing field concrete testing. Current or prior American Concrete Institute (ACI) certification. Current or prior Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification (additional compensation will apply) Construction, engineering technology, civil engineering, or related education or training. Work Environment This position involves a combination of construction-site, field, and limited office work . The successful candidate must be comfortable working outdoors for extended periods and working safely around active construction equipment and operations. Projects will primarily be located in the Owensboro and Hawesville areas , although occasional travel to other project locations may be required. Project-related travel will be performed in a company-provided fleet vehicle . Employees are responsible for reliable transportation to and from the Owensboro office or designated reporting location.
